I wish I could come up with some constructive criticism of the new layout, maybe some pointers to how it could be improved. Currently, all I can think of is IT'S ALL FUCKED UP. Sorry n'all, but it's a cluttered, poorly laid-out fucking mess. frown

HATE HATE HATE the new layout. As some others have said previously in this thread, change for the sake of progress and improvement is great. Change for the sake of change only - pointless (and annoying). Frankly, there was nothing really "wrong" with the old format, perhaps it was a little old, but not in need of being "fixed". I liked having all the interests right there without them being categorized or needing to click on tabs to see them. I liked not having limits to the number of characters. and I HATE the fact that my testimonials, comments and groups are on the front page...

If they really want to improve it, make it a modular setup that you as an individual user can customize. Allow the user to choose what content they would like to display, and in what order they would like to display it, on their front page. Allow the user to choose whether they would like a top 10 list or simply a favorite film. Don't limit characters - that's lame, especially since so many titles are long. If you're going to go through the trouble of changing it, make it an enhanced experience, and improvement... not just a re-hack of old info.

All in all, why the hell did they change it? It sucks! PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK! mad

1.) I hate the character cap on the top ten, especially since it means I can't include author names with the book titles. As a writer, it really bothers me. "Favorite books" isn't the same as favorite bands, but more like favorite albums.

2.) It really bothers me to have my last comments to other peoples' journals on my front page. It's all out of context and kind of weird.

3.) Having testimonials RIGHT THERE makes me feel boastful, and I hate that.

4.) Sex tab? What the heck? Super creepy, and why is "most humbling moment" there? I don't think this word "humbling" means what you think it means.

5.) It just looks so very cluttered that you get turned off from reading blogs, and I really like it when people read my blogs so I'd be most disappointed if people stopped reading them on account of my homepage looks like someone barfed on a dictionary.

I understand that SG, as a business, needs to update their look from time to time to keep things fresh.

But the whole new design completely ignores the motivation for why people read each others profiles in the first place.
It now has this popularity contest on the front, with 'this is how many testimonials i have' , 'this is how many groups i'm in' , and 'look at how many comments i make' , instead of something that may provide some actual information on the person.
I know the position has really just moved. But it's moved to an area which is too small for the information needed.
The size of the fields forces you to either just replace it with some silly joke, or cut it down to such little information as to be unsubstantive.
Whereas before you could make silly comments, but still have room for genuine information about yourself.

it also seems, content wise, that the main funtion of the new profile layout, is making it easier to find people you want to hook-up with....which i find is a little creepy.

But my main beef, is that 'my favourite artists' is gone......

Okay, I'm guessing that in these 20 pages a lot of the same stuff has been said and this is probably redundant, but I need to say it anyway.

First, PLEASE fix the fucking character limit stuff. It's way too restrictive and if any of my answers are anything more than a sentence on some of my profile stuff, whole fields go over the "box" area and look incredibly ugly. Messy coding is a sad, sad thing.

And secondly and more importantly: a lot of these new changes make me feel like I'm in a meat market. Why does that tab need to be named "Sex"? That's just gross, frankly. I'm not looking for sex, but because so much of my profile stuff is now in that section and I can't decide NOT to have a dating profile, it allows people to simply look at my pictures and "sex" section and ignore anything having to do with my actual personality.

Because of the new organization I've had to change some of my profile answers because I feel like they are suddenly overly suggestive and are going to get me a ton of emails from creeps. Because I don't want everyone to be able to immediately see my recent comments, my page looks uglier. It's just...ugh. I'm sorry, but in my four years here there has never been a site change that makes me feel uncomfortable, and this one does.

2) I check my SG page from work to check comments and whatnot. Now, because the group pictures show up on my profile page and some of the groups I am in have nudity in their group pictures, my profile page is no longer safe for work. Setting my groups tab to "friends only" does not alleviate this problem because *I* still see it every time I check my page. This will cause me to either use the site less or leave groups that have nudity in their profile pictures and thus use the site less.

I can't check mine from work, but I'm still turned off by the group pictures being out on display. My old profile information may not have been the most amusing or interesting, but it gave a much better indication of who I am than the testimonials, groups, and comments. I've been loath to make my comments and groups private, but I may have to. Granted, I joined those groups for a reason, but I'm not so keen on having people's first impression of me being "Mamet sometimes likes to look at ass and hairy pussy!"

1. I don't like that the "About me" box has gone. I don't think anyone criticised that on the "SG 4.0 Hate" thread. I especially don't like that the first thing is occupation.

2. Comment stalking. I don't want it encouraged.

3. I don't want a dating profile. I'm not actively looking.

I liked SG 4.0 from the start, but this is just a bit strange.

Exactly. It's extremely impersonal, and makes it more difficult to simply find out about each other.

So it has! Philistines! mad

I miss the beautifully simple and pristine narrow little profile with clear black letters of the previous version of this site. Simplicity on web pages is wonderful.

I don't like all my profile information being behind tabs now; it means people strange enough to be interested in me will actually have to look beyond my main page to find out stuff about me, which makes me seem a lot more interesting than I really am. But at least my testimonials, groups and comments will be staring them in the face. Joy. They are also staring me in the face every time I'm on my page; that just won't get old really quickly, will it? As grateful as I am to my friends for leaving me testimonials, I feel embarrassed to be always seeing them. And why do I need to be seeing my groups there all the time, as well? It's not like the pictures actually tell me anything useful, other than which group has had a comment posted most recently. I don't need my links to groups to be that handy, I don't know about anyone else.

And I, too, am disturbed by the default messages for 'Makes me happy', etc.. Are they supposed to be funny? Are 'the staff' (I have no idea who I'm addressing) taking the piss out of me for not filling those bits out? It's just, well, silly.

The words 'waste of time' keep appearing in my head. In reference to both the change and also our most important complaints here.
