... actually, staff might want to think about whether this new feature is reducing the stickiness of the site... by reducing traffic on new threads that get buried fast.
Every time I look, the entire active thread list is set comments. That are the generic "I love it" which is never, ever worth reading.
In fact, I'm willing to go as far as to say that I think set comments don't really fit on the boards. Not to say there's something wrong with showing your love for a quality set, but to me it seems the same as putting blog comments on the boards.
I don't think the set comments being on the board is the problem. It used to be a way for me to see new sets I might not have noticed otherwise. The problem is the stupid popup comment box and it's generic comment options. Instead of removing set comments from the active threads or your threads they should just get rid of that thing entirely.
I think a reasonable compromise would be to split that Active Topics area in two. It appears there's enough whitespace between Active Topics and Your Topics to fit in another four topics. That would bring the topic count up to 19 in that area. But split it in two and make the second list something like "Hot Sets" which would feature the most recently commented upon sets. The title would kill probably two lines of topics, let's say three, and that leaves each list with eight items, which sounds reasonable to me. Or maybe ten Active Topics and six Hot Sets.
Actually, having mocked it up, it looks like I fit twelve and six.
I think there should be more then I love it and I hate it, because there are some sets I like and some that just are amazing and there should be a way to say that.

There is. You can write your own comment instead of hitting some lame button. More generic options is not the answer. The option to leave a pre-written comment should be eliminated.

you can turn that off if you go to your setting page.

Being able to turn it off in my own settings is irrelevant when the problem is that the ability of other people to leave huge amounts of meaningless comments is screwing up the boards.

I almost emailed Al to see if she could explain the text of your post, but i reread it a few times and, after simplifying the expression, I was able to understand it. Then I scrolled down a lil bit and saw the figure you made and it all made perfect sense to me.
Oh, and I expected that the lil two button thing was the start of something that staff was working on where they were gonna make a charting system for which sets are the most popular (perhaps for internal use).
also, it seems that most, myself included, aren't aware that when you click the box on that thing. (and lets face it, I'm positive quite a number of people just click the "yes" box to make it go away) it posts that bot comment to the girls set.. when I first clicked yes, err i mean, 'i love it', I thought I was submiting something to a site survey, or for the staff, but after actually looking at the set and leaving a comment properly I noticed what i thought was a double post, yet it was in fact the 'I love it' bot comment.. /sigh
yea i find it rather anoying, dont get me wrong, it must be great to get double or triple the amount of coments you used to get. i noticed while look at one of the girls set lists. everyone avraged around 600 comments. and then her newest one about 3 days old had a peak of over 1600!!!. pages apon pages of " i loved it" no doubt. you can just click the "X" if you do not wish to coment

it baffles me how people don't realize they are actually supposed to type something in the comment box before pressing the button.
I don't know about anyone else, but before i shut that stupid thing off, I couldn't type anything in the box about half the time. It would just stay blank. I tried clicking on it, I tried refreshing. Nothing worked. Maybe that is happening to a lot of people.

I don't mind it happening...it sorts out the members that have something decent to say and the ones that don't. *Shrugs*
I think it just makes it harder to find comments from members who actually have something to say.
How so?
Because if you do want to see what others say about a set you have to read pages of mindless drivel. Because new threads get buried and die. Because an entire section of the boards is now useless to post anything but set comments in. It's pretty much what this thread is about...
Did you read the initial post? I used to use the active topics to look for new threads. Now that's a waste of time and space. There used to be active topics under "the girls" section in addition to set topics. Try to find one now. Ideally i think getting rid of the generic comments is the solution, but maybe an alternative would to remove set comments from active topics and to split the girls board into set threads and non set threads. Also given that new threads get buried maybe a new topics section might be a good idea.
Yeah I definately think the set comments need their own board now.
They did anyway- threads like 'girls of limbo', 'pic that made you join', 'your best set ever' were always really interesting and yet got buried in minates, and now its almost impossible to find them, and utterly pointless starting conversations on them.
Plus, I imagine SGs would rather get 300 comments from people who can be bothered to say something thoughful or give some feedback than 900, most of which just say 'I loved it'.
It makes it less likely they're going to sift through them and see the little messages of genuine appreciation which may well make them
But I dunno- think that's perhaps something the SGs should decide??
