Our THIRD hardcover book, Hard Girls, Soft Light is now available in the shop!!

When we say Hard Girls we mean "hard" in the British slang sense of the word, which is used to describe someone who is tough, strong, a little dangerous, and who doesn't take shit from anyone. Make no mistake, these women are beautiful, and can be vulnerable and sweet, but conversely they are also courageous and hard, with a strength that is often born of fire.

When we talk of Soft Light, we emphasize it because, before SuicideGirls, the kind of girls we love were depicted in a harsh light. Not just literally, with the use of flash photography and bright lights, but metaphorically by way of context, too. 'Alternative' tattooed and pierced girls were often visually stereotyped, being overwhelmingly depicted wearing heavy makeup, latex outfits, stiletto heels and the like. We didn't want to put our girls into dominatrix dungeon fantasies, we wanted to wake up with them in bed and see them at first morning light. The unique beauty, the individualist sex symbol, shot in her natural state.

Over 200 pages of beautiful SuicideGirls. It's everything you dreamed it would be.

The discount for SG's is already figured in when you are logged in to the site. I don't think you have to enter in a special code or your username or password again.

So since it's officially out this means that nobody actually has it in their paws, right?

Says Shipping it is 19.70 which Brings the grand total to ruffly 60 bucks. It's all over the internet for sale from other places for like 25 bucks. $23.69 with Free Shipping to be exact... Why's it so much more here? I would rather support the site directly but that's a huge price gap to swallow. Any info?

Internet discounters often have distribution advantages that direct sellers don't. Also, if the site undercuts the MSRP routinely, they screw over brick&mortar stores trying to make a buck, since they're now the only places charging MSRP.

The modern sales system is in an uncomfortable place right now. If a publisher matches Amazon's discounts, they still can't match Amazon's distribution network. And local businesses (including everyone who isn't Amazon) will be even worse off than they already are for being competitive.

That's the modern world. If you want the best price, no one can beat Amazon. If you want to support the site directly, you'll end up paying a premium. If you want to support your local store, you'll end up paying a premium.

If anyone knows a way around this, I'd love to hear it. I'm in the exact same place with my board game publishing business. I want to price things in a way that the brick & mortar stores that support the hobby and the community can be competitive, but anything I do in terms of setting prices can be exploited by Internet-based discounters more easily than the local retailers who actually support the hobby.

Long story short, SG isn't trying to screw you over. They're trying to set a responsible price that lets your corner book store also make a buck.

I pre-ordered elsewhere because shipping is a bit higher than I would like in the SG shop.

(I would rather support the site directly too, but with limited financial means, I have to save where I can....no offense at all intended)

Yep. But I think only two issues have come out.

And don't forget the four-issue comic book series -- currently in stock in the shop.
