We just introduced a couple new items to profiles that some of you may be interested in: Twitter & Facebook! Even more exciting, we are beta testing Twitter syncing, which gives you the option to have your minibar sentence (the "status" sentence up by your name) sync with Twitter -- your tweets will update your minibar sentence (except tweets with an @ in them -- we ignore those).
Please note that we are currently limiting the number of people that may use this sync service, so the option may not be available to you.
This feature is BETA which means that the service may be altered, removed, unavailable, etc at any time, without notice. We expect there will be bugs and kinks to work out, so please let us know if you run into any by posting to this thread.
Please report all bugs and feedback related to Twitter in this thread
This isn't a bug, but it drove me crazy at first.....when filling in the twitter section of your profile, you don't need your whole link. Just /andthenyourname. Or did everyone already know that already?
Why not using Twitter oauth instead, so you can pull out from private profiles too.
Also if you use the Twitter streaming API you can fetch tweets for all SG users within one http stream, I use it for http://4push.com, one of my iPhone application.

I figured it was pretty straightforward since the whole url didn't fit. /: But that's just me.

Edited to add: I love this. Works for me (:
As it was new...I thought perhaps the whole URL did not fit, because it was a bug. With the others you have to put the whole link, there was no reason to think Twitter would be different. Just thought I'd give a heads up to those who might come in here wondering why it wasn't fitting.
not a bug, more a suggestion, but how about individual levels of privacy for these. i like the idea of people on my friends list being able to find me on facebook, but only my friends.
Hmm. I have the sync checkbox option and just tested a few tweets with it, but it's not updating my status. Does the status have to be blank first or does it take time to sync?

I actually read Niobe's post before I went to my profle, so this helped me.

nevermind. It seems it just takes time to sync. Working now.

Is this just in one direction (from Twitter to SG) or both directions?
i would guess one way seen as i'm assuming sg would need some form of authentication before it could access your twitter to post there, which it doesn't seem to ask for.

^^ Correct, we currently only offer the option to update SG from Twitter.

and now my recent activity feed is a twitter feed.
...terrif. :|
Yeah, this needs to be separate from the update page. No way anyone would be able to follow it if even 2 or 3 active tweeters are on their friends list. I've updated 3 or 4 times since I checked the box and did not realize the impact it was having.
