MADISON, Maine - Tired of the same old Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts? The Madison Planning Board tonight takes up a man's application to open a topless coffee shop on Main Street.

Normand St. Michel says his plan to employ partially nude waitresses is intended to boost the establishment's chances of success. He says the idea is to do something different to attract coffee drinkers.

St. Michel says he also wants to run a clean business in which no alcohol will be sold.

Madison's code enforcement officer says he knows of no town ordinances that would bar such an operation. Robert Dunphy Jr. also said he doesn't think the interior of the coffee shop would be visible from the street.

Start the latte jokes....now.

Im moving back home. Madison is about 20 minutes from my hometown. Not that I couldn't go see topless ladies here. It's just much nippier in Maine. I love the girls back home.

This reminds me of the ill-fated Debbie Does Doughnuts that opened up in my hometown for about two weeks back in 1990. It had lines around the block the entire time it was open. On a side note, the son of the owner of said establishment taught me karate.

Alcohol is great lube in parting a fool and his dollar. Will caffeine only make a wise man the stingier with his money?

Open question: how much of a revenue difference is there between a strip bar serving a depressant vs. one serving a stimulent? How much more take home is there for the strippers? Would you need to hire more or fewer bouncers? Is threat of a DUI a good way to retain customers while they sober up from earlier drinks? Would a strip bar serving lattes become an early morning place as opposed to an after work place?

there's gotta be some sort of cross-section of people out there with a fetish for burn victims. there is a fetish for everything else.

i'd go, but only if there was no cover charge and drink minimum. those are the things that have kept me out a strip joints thus far...

Just goes to show there's no shortage of small-minded, prudish douchebags in this world.

50% chance it was some creep who got turned down by his waitress obsession
50% chance it was a jealous housewife whose husband was a too frequent "regular".
