Asked what most viewers and observers of Fox News would be surprised to learn about the controversial cable channel, a former insider from the world of Rupert Murdoch was quick with a response: “I don’t think people would believe it’s as concocted as it is; that stuff is just made up.”
Say it ain't so!!!
Indeed, a former Fox News employee who recently agreed to talk with Media Matters confirmed what critics have been saying for years about Murdoch’s cable channel. Namely, that Fox News is run as a purely partisan operation, virtually every news story is actively spun by the staff, its primary goal is to prop up Republicans and knock down Democrats, and that staffers at Fox News routinely operate without the slightest regard for fairness or fact checking.
My world . . . she ends!
No, this is not much of a serious news story. I'm just easily amused.
Fox even states that it is "Fair and Balanced" and you aren't able to claim that until someone from the Fair and Balanced Advisory Board approves you. Also, one of their highly intelligent, diligent, respectful, and fact-checking journalists, Bill O'Reilly even uses the phrase, "No Spin Zone."
In all seriousness, I'm surprised that there isn't some sort of media standards that would prevent them from making such false claims in the first place. It's almost as if there was a board meeting a couple of decades ago and someone said, "Hey, have you seen the shit that The Enquirer and The Sun are getting away with? ... "

You mean like the Fairness Doctrine, which ensured (from '49 to '87) that giant corporations could profit from their news divisions provided they were willing to inform for the sake of public good & offer both sides to controversial issues so that the general public could be informed & knowledgeable & take part in a healthy discourse?
Yeah, Reagen kicked that shit to the curb by E.O. in '87 & every time anyone talks about bringing it back the Right-- which has & continues to benefit massively from its removal-- talks about government thought police & suppression of unpopular speech, despite the Doctrine obviously being an attempt to encourage rather than discourage unpopular speech. In the alternate reality that the modern/mainstream GOP currently inhabits, the market solves every thing & if your idea or speech isn't profitable, clearly you're not right & have no right to a forum outside of your local street corner, provided you can afford the megaphone.

The Fairness Doctrine would not have applied to cable companies it was only applicable for over-the-air broadcasters.
Good catch, IDGAS. My bad. There was some conversation over the last decade-- if I recall correctly-- about expanding the FCC's reach to cable networks due to their >80% market penetration*. Of course, there doesn't seem to be much actual legal standing for that, considering the FCC was founded to regulate the airwaves. Still, it would have an affect on the radio market, & Limbaugh & his mutated proteges (Beck, Ingham, Schelinsger [sp?], etc.) mostly made their bones on AM talk radio before being given cable platforms from which to lie from. Limbaugh himself only came up in the years following the removal of the Doctrine.
*I'm not sure I'd agree with expanding the FCC's regulation to cable, & I certainly don't agree with it based on this argument alone. I'm not even entirely sure that I like what the FCC is or does, in practice, although in theory I recognize the need for some regulatory oversight of broadcasting & media, it just seems like they should worry themselves more with the fact that something like seven corporations control ~90% of all media in this country than whether or not there's some nipple slippage going on during primetime.
My big issue was the legal and regulatory changes made that set the stage for media consolidation. In the past there were limits on the number of television and radio stations that could be owned. As well as rules around owning newspapers and TV & Radio stations in the same market place.
No, that's how you access Fox's Strategic Fear Reserve. In times of peace and prosperity, Fox releases stored fear in order to prevent the inflation of actual freedom.

More bullshit: FoxNews "erroneously" aired footage of the 2010 CPAC Conference instead of the 2011 clip during a Ron Paul Interview: Bill Hemmer is an editing douchebag
I watched Glenn Beck for 10 minutes today doing research for an article I'm writing for the SG news page and I seriously had to turn it off because he was such an unbelievable dirtbag and beyond stupid.
I try not to insult people for their opinions, I really try not to, but that guy is one step below functioning retarded.
While I'm not a fan of Fix (sic) News in general and Glenn Beck in particular, the notion that other mainstream media outlets are the paragons of unbiased journalistic integrity is beyond the pale in its ridiculousness, Objective journalism died years ago, Wipe them all out and start the fuck over.
