NOrth Korea does virtually no trade. It's missiles are a joke (based on Scud technology and they have as good a chance of splashing into the ocean as the ydo hitting their intended target) and incapable of carrying the nuclear weapns that North Korea is widely believed to possess. Trade sanctions = bad idea. Multiparty talks = bad idea. Any negotiations with North Korea = bad idea. The ywill just ignore any agreemetn made. It's a way for them to get what they want. If you bribe a three year old to put his penis back in his pants by giving him ice cream, what do you think he's going to do when he wants more ice cream? He's going to whip out his little pee-pee again. The same principle applies to North Korea.
As I said in the earlier thread about NK, we should all ignore North Korea and Kim Jong Il, except to ridicule them and him. All we are doing by paying so much attention to North Korea is allowing their batshit crazy dictator to propagandize himself as "standing up against Western and American hegemony". So let's treat North Korea like the kid who has a temper tantrum at home because he doesn't get to eat dessert first. Let's ignore them. They aren't a threat. Just let them show their penis. Once they realize that no one cares anymore, and that no one takes them seriously anymore, then perhaps they will realize that they will need to come upwith a different tactic for getting what they want.

I still don't get why China won't do more. Having such an unstable government with nukes so close to it you would think they would invade. But China won't even go for an embargo. They want something less binding.
Because China has alot of economical interest in North Korea. If they back an attack they lose alot of money (especially if the US goes in and installs a government that screws China out of trade in favor of "democratic" nations)
North Korea's economy is shit. I can't see what they get out of it. And as I said they are perfectly capable of invading on their own with out the US or anyone elses help. So long as they don't annex the land I don't think anyone would get in their way.

Military invasion does not seem a viable option for DPRK because it is not economically sustainable. Such an effort would be more whimper than bang. I doubt they could even feed the troops once they traveled outside their own major cities.
Per capita GDP in DPRK is 1/26th of the US (modest population) and 1/8 that of China. Hell, Angola's per capita GDP is 2X that of DPRK.
I can't comment on their nooclear capabilities, but whatever they might have, it seems to be the only option they have available, though the objective remains fuzzy.
