It's every geek's favorite day, and this week, the publishers weren't fucking around. If you don't have forty or fifty dollars to spend, stay the hell away from the store today.
These are the four must reads:
Astonishing X-Men #14. I'm a little torn about this comic. With Joss Whedon and John Cassaday, it's one of the best written and drawn comics ever, but last issue Joss had Emma Frost seducing Cyclops with her mind powers and a Dark Phoenix costume, and I'm not paying someone to draw my own 6th grade masturbation fantasies back at me.
Invincible #31. You'll probably have to buy two since this is the comic we all give to our non-dork friends and girlfriends to convince them to like superheroes.
Ultimate Fantastic Four #29. Damn this comic is good. Mark Millar and Greg Land are finishing off the "President Thor" storyline after last issue's that-person's-totally-dead cliffhanger.
New Avengers Annual #1. This is what Bendis has been building to-- the big fight against Adaptoid, who is the Avengers' version of Amazo (that means he has like everybody's powers).
You'll probably need to buy these too:
Black Panther #15. The series hasn't quite gotten back to the level of rad we saw in the first story arch, but Black Panther is starting to rival Daredevil as the strongest-written character in comics.
Lucifer #73 by Mike Carey and Seven Soldiers Frankenstein #4 by Grant Morrison. I listed these two together because I think everyone should give them a try, but like a lot of Mike Carey and Grant Morrison's work, the stories work better when you read them in a single sitting. So if you can hold out, wait for the trade paper back.
Runaways #15 by Brian K. Vaughan. After some mediocrity, last issue brought back everything that's great about this book.
DC's other highlights: You're going to go broke if you're keeping up with DC's One Year Later/Crisis extravaganza.
Batman #652
Batman, LOTDK #204
Blue Beetle #2
Checkmate #1
Crisis Aftermath The Battle For Bludhaven #2
Villains United Infinite Crisis Special
Marvel's other highlights: Every month, Staczynski makes Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four harder and harder to stay awake through. Why I still buy them, I'll never know.
Amazing Spider-Man #531
Fantastic Four #537
Sentry #8 (Series Finale)
Wolverine #41
Storm #3
X-Factor #6
The Thing #6
there are so many excellent non-superhero comics out there... do they not warrant a mention?
Last time I checked Lucifer wasn't a Super Hero.
Anyway is this going to be a weekly news? because I it.
I just got back from the Comic store with my Lucifer, Planet Hulk, and Astonishing X-men. I am really waiting for the new Walking Dead though because I thought it was supposed to be out like 2 weeks ago.
I love comic shop talk It's the one thing I miss most living out in the sticks. Not being able to head down to ye olde comic shop and yammerin' about comics

They aren't all boring, Astonishing X-men is pretty good (and written by Joss Whedon of Firefly fame) . But your right it isn't only thing out there. Recently I have been reading Conan which is excellent and someone told me Joss is going to do a few issues of that soon. And yet again let me urge everyone to pick up the Walking Dead which is the best horror/zombie comic out there. I know it seems like an over done plot but it is done really well and this is comming from someone who hates horror and zombie anything.

I agree that there are a number of great non-superhero comic books. However, why don't you submit a news story about the release of the most recent issues of your favorite titles rather than finding fault in those that excite Seanbaby? I'd appreciate both lists.

We should have a geek fight to settle this. Light sabers at 20 paces.

If only there were a thread where you could post the titles of those comics!

This comment is a strange marriage between TMI and "Wow, now I need a willing girl and a Dark Phoenix costume."
The only problem with that would be every week when the list is posted, people would immediately feel the need to grumble about why their favorite comic isn't on the list, so they'd make their own lists, and we'd have to wade through everything to actually find posts we want to read. Don't discuss politics, religion or comics online

Then go read it, and I'll read what the fuck I want to read.

Mediocrity? That shit cuts deep man. Deep. The possibility of a copy of Runaways waiting for me on Wednesday has me bounding into the comic book store like a little kid.
