On the other hand, you could spend that money to download a picture of the Charlotte Hornets logo...
just to be a basketball nerd here - Charlotte is home to the Bobcats now. the Hornets are in New Orleans. Or - Oklahoma City, i guess. kind of. i understand, it's confusing.
I was thinking the same exact thing...and who wants a Charlotte Hornets logo anyways?!!?

You really need to be stupid to buy this shit. A horse outfit..come on!
Oh yeah, totally. I mean, those people could have spent their money on something useful, like almost one entire beer at the local bar. Alternately, they could have bought a single issue of a comic book, or maybe half of the latest issue of Computer Gaming Monthly, where they could see totally awesome words about, and totally awesome pictures of games they could read about... for free! on the internet.
People with disposable income are going to dispose of it - and spending a couple bucks to buy some bling for your horse doesn't seem that silly when you've already invested 50+ in the latest iteration of a software whose major purpose is enabling people to cockpunch digital elves.
If you don't think its worth it, don't buy it. But someone will.. therefore it becomes money-making "crap." And its all about the Benjamins.. is it not?
If it can be sold, they will try to sell it. Even if its wothless. Its always been this way. 360 didn't invent this.
Its also worthy mentioning that the game is not being shipped in some sort of half-assed way. There is, as is acknowledged by most reviewers, already a huge wealth of content within the game. Oblivion is a solid game, and I can't knock them for adding something trivial. And in addition to the trivial add-ons they are also offering very significant additions in the way of continuing gameplay.
This sounds like a pretty decent model of creating additional content. I'm just worried when the real profiteers come along, like EA and want to make money with frivolous DLC. But i think the service itself (the marketplace, as Tycho puts it) is not the problem.

especially since you could probably get it for free on the pc..hell, the one for free on the PC probably would make your horse into a flying unicorn with ninja throwing stars and fire breath.
Horse Armor Pack (6.2 MB) DLC1
Tamriel is a dangerous place. Protect your horse from danger with this beautiful handcrafted armor.
You are paying for many hours work by skilled armourers in their foundry.
The wierd thing is you have to click on "Add To Cart". Surely the armor would be more use on the horse than the cart? What use is a war horse pulling a cart any way?

Maybe the next thing they can sell is a cart. That would actually be useful, since you can only carry so many items. (Especially when combined with the mod that allows you to call your horse from anywhere.)
it will get better right now the live is made up of simple games and themes yes a waste of money.
it's not like they were hording content before the launch of xbox 360 give it some time but soon there will be good stuff like "street fighter II" and "king of the fighters"
p.s. i mentioned it before that live marketplace would turn out like this, a way for developers to charge for content for existing games that would have been free otherwise

imo anyone who pinches $2.50 is pretty fucking cheap.
It's like any other purchase: do I receive value commensurate with the price? If I do, I don't hesitate to make that purchase. $2.50 is well below my "significant expenditure" threshold where I start to consider what effect it might have on my finances in the rest of the pay period.
I, like many others, do not consider horse armor in a game to constitute value commensurate with that price. Especially since the last game in the series received similar content for free.

You know, this is just the sort of logic used by Adolf Hitler.

This is a stupid argument. PC is FAR worse. In World Of Warcraft people shell out real money for in-game gold and one guy bought a character for $2,000 dollars so I don't want to hear about how life is better on pc. Lets also not forget EA's Battlefield 2 expansion packs that aren't worth the money.

Also: Anyone who actually owns a horse is a poor lout who needs to learn how to steal their own horses.
thieving rocks!
i wouldn't pay for the horse armor... but i'd probably drop a couple bucks on a new dungeon set or something. not like the game needs more content to suck me in.
it's when a company starts charging extra for "mouse functionality in a game or else all you can use is your keyboard or gamepad", that we start to worry.
It's not like the modding community can't create things like this themselves. The construction set is available free and there already is a pretty good modding community out there for the game.
All this ends up being an official mod with a price tag instead of one made by a random guy.

Life is better on PC with this game. Also, a bit of a cheat to WoW: you can avoid paying $2,000 for a character on E-Bay by not being a complete moron. And the game company makes nothing on the transaction. A model alteration/new texture is the sort of thing that gets updated on WoW for no money whatsoever and gets patched into games all the time for free. To say that they are testing the waters on price points would be the understatement of the century.

$2000 freaking dollars on ebay?
i would think blizzard would hire hounds to find stuff like this on the net.
I feel cheated a player using real world resources money, to get a head in a rpg.
rpg stands for role playing gaem not real playing game.
it would be like paying some one to take your english exam because you don't feel or want to spend the time to study.
