Did you read anything I linked to? They're evacuating people (something the National Guard does) and appear to be providing security for relief operations (something the National Guard does).
Did you read? here press release said they sent a helicopter to aid in the evacuation on the 1st. How many private copters were used, do you think it is rare? Hell every Air transport company I know (OK I only know people at 3) had copters flying into NO. The other article said he ran into guys with Blackwater shirts he never said what they were doing .

one they sent a Puma helicopter not Blackhawk (cargo copter not combat copter)
two body armor isn't uncommen for security even for the derogitory termed "rent-a-cops" and almost manditory for upperlevel or bodyguard types.
three there was no info that they were hired by the gov
four the gov hires a crap load of security and I am sure that "combat" type security is minimal to none.
