Much more likely? The idea that specific pics run under specific headlines in the hopes that someone does call them on it. That would give Hannity and the No Spin Zone hours of stuff to talk about.
Doesn't people on a roof top equate to the "Despair" part of the headline? Must they have a split picture showing looting to be considered OK? I think all news stations are sensationalistic at this point. That is how they make money in this country. I'm not saying that is good or bad, but it is true. I don't see a problem with fox's headline.
I have consistently been watching the FOX News (cable station on satellite dish) over CNN.
I recently relocated to FL and have been warily watching the storm season progess. Katrina was well documented locally in this area throughout the week leading up to devastation, and the morning of landfall, I woke up early to watch the coverage, and even called home (to my mother in Wisconsin) to suggest that any coverage she saw would be of a "generational event." She didn't believe me at the time, by the way.
FOX was the first one on with coverage. FOX took fewer commercial breaks. That Harrigan dude on FOX was the best. FOX monitored some of the smaller areas that were harder hit, but less reported. Anyway...you get the idea...I don't believe that I was responding to some hidden, class-ist/racist bigotry, hidden in my subconscious.
I did watch some CNN coverage, but it just seemed too late, and too little.
FOX did better, and got me watching.
Point for Keith:
I have not been gathering news from internet sources as a means of information.
This is not within my normal pattern. In most recent cases I have used the internet to monitor fast moving news stories such as these. I believe the reason for the difference is that the kind of constant attention the is required to do internet research is too emotionally draining in regards to this topic. I dunno...too close to home maybe? I can only spend short amounts of time before it wraps me up and becomes overwhelming.
The time I have spent online has been in reading blogs such as:

And to me, the way that picture is layed out is obviously intended to make one think that the people depicted are part of the "lawlessness", the 6-point font caption is an afterthought.
Maybe that's more of a personal issue for you, Keith.
