GEEK: Women are Better at the Internet!

A recently-released study by MORI (Market & Opinion Research International) finds that women may have safer internet surfing habits than men.

Unfortunately, it also found that women are less likely to be knowledgeable about threats encountered on the internet, which potentially invalidates the study's conclusions.

So do women actually engage in less-risky behavior online? Or do they just believe they've never encountered any of these threats because they don't recognize them when they see them? Either way, the low numbers of people who claim to even know what these common threats are is a bit disconcerting.

Porn sites have more viruses.

I think the comment about porn is correct but there are things that i do not know about like phising. I also think that women are smart in here habbits then men as well.

Men explore and take advantage of the fun that is the internet more, plus we're more likely to look at virus-laden boobies. It's reasonable for us to both be exposed to more viruses, identify them more often when they occur, and even to successfully remove more of them from the system or restore it.

Every time I've had to use a female friend's computer I've discovered it locked up or slowed down constantly and had more bugs than my cat. They hadn't asked for help in the matter because they thought it was perfectly natural for computers to shut themselves down every half hour, or cover the screen in browser pop-ups whenever they were left idle.

considering the results were from an online survey, i don't think this can properly be answered by these stats...

but do i personally think that more men than women surf "dodgy" sites and are more at risk for threats? absolutely! i want to say something along the lines of "we're more likely to be distracted by 'dodgy' porn sites and click on them than women" but i'm not sure how to phrase it or back it up...
