It's a bit disingenuous to call someone who questions differences between genders and races a propent of Eugenics.

i'm not calling him a proponent of eugenics because he questions differences between genders. i'm calling him a proponent of eugenics because he actually is a proponent of eugenics.
I totally understand that. Sorry, I wasn't clear enough in my post. Yes, this guy is full of shit, but the topic shouldn't be forbidden simply because this propagandist decided to run with it.

I'm just wondering what you hope to achieve by posting this.
Are you feeling the need for a shit-kicking from the women on here or something?
I'm following you. My original post, to which I referred in the second quote above, merely pointed out that the intro of the topic was rather bold, given the tendency to knee-jerk reactions in any crowd.
Again, this is a fascinating topic to me. There are, undoubtedly, differences, in terms of cognitive functions, between different genders and races. Those differences don't interest me nearly as much as the reaction by the varying "factions" (not the proper word here but I'm harried at the moment).
Eugenics is interesting to me, not because of the idea, which is far from fringe (people endorse its "selective breeding" concept routinely by purchasing purebred dogs - and if you're an animal lover and don't see this as a very fine line, you're fooling yourself) but because it is invoked to neuter many philosophical discussions before they happen.
In other words, if we can't discuss the topic (sigh), I'm happy to discuss why we can't discuss the topic.
Last scientific wide-ranging evidence I've seen reports women excel by leaps and bounds over men in math and science, and have IQ 10-15 points higher on the median.....
Yeah thats right. They're born smarter than us by nature.
Damned nature. Yeah I am bitter about it. But thats because I hate algebra. Damn it all!
In otherwords this is pure bollocks. Please drive through

A link, if you have it, would be helpful.
I googled a bit for something showing how IQ tests are gender biased, and didn't see anything (and asked about it on page 1).
By pure bollocks do you mean he is fabricating his IQ test results. That would wrap it up nicely, but I'd be very disappointed in the BBC.

To think that all races (and the genders) share an exactly similar brain, and by extention, brain functions, when other organs are shown to differ greatly, is incredibly naive.
That said, why do we have such a hard time discussing this? This is what I'm most interested in. I really don't care which race/gender has the superior long-term memory processing ability.
Did you see the study I mentioned at the top of page 2? Assuming it's correct, there are notable brain differences between men and women at least. I don't know about between races. Incidentally the grey matter/white matter difference seems to validate what my mom has been saying since before I was born, that on average men think more linearly and women think more circularly.
As for why we have a hard time discussing it, I think some people aren't comfortable with the fact that two groups could be equal without being identical. This is often understandable though, as whatever the dominant group of the time is (white males here) tends to set things up so that their characteristics are considered the best and any deviation is a sign of inferiority. So it isn't surprising that a lot of progressive people are hesitant to acknowledge variation between groups for fear that it'll give the oppressors ammo.

It's not the results or the BBC I question, it is the mode, ie the test batteries used. Which standards were used and what are the name of the tests?
Anywho yes I don't think they are inherently gender or race biased, but unintentionally can come out as such.
I wish I had a google link but typing it out as well the problem is the articles were from a long ways back, hell I even heard it on a morning radio news show once when I was like what in the second grade? But yes if I could get it to you I would.
-shrug-
There are also studies on how we process information differently for different parts of the brain, the differences aren't anything surprising awe inspiring or huge but they do make for good reading, mind you reading I can't easily look up either.

I'm quite the believer in egalitarianism. And yes I believe that, equal but different is correct. In fact why the hell can I not speak so eloquently as I would wish to.
Thanks. Its not really insulting either, it just points out minor neurological differences which are interesting to note for thought and behavioral processes.
