i don't know. if my line of work involved people trying to kill me, i'd be kind of jumpy too.
the article is written completely in hindsight, "yeah, the kid who was in some lady's yard in the middle of the night, wouldn't respond to cops, then ran at one totally didn't seem like a crackhead at all. the obvious answer here is that he was autistic". right, totally.
it sucks that an innocent kid got beat up, and it's fully possible that the cops could have taken him down without manhandling him so much, but come on. there's no way they could have known. all they saw was someone tweaking out at 2am.

Not having been on scene, I have no way of knowing exactly what transpired...however I will say that three trained sheriff's deputies should be able to subdue a 17 year-old-boy without having to pepper-spray, stun and beat him. If they cannot...they have no business wearing a badge & carrying a firearm...period.
Well, unfortunately, the minute you touch a cop, the gloves are off. As soon as he "bumped" them, autistic or not, things were going to go badly for him. I feel terrible for this kid. The article isn't all that informative though, there may be more than what we're reading here.

Big surprize...coming from a guy flashing a gang sign in his profile.

Word. I don't think it's fair to the police to say that they should have known the boy was autistic, especially since autism has so many different symptoms and levels of severity. But I'm sure that 3 coppers could have handled him without resorting to beating the living shit out of him.
i think if it was one on one, the force used may have been acceptable, but because there were 3 of them, i agree with cash, no business at all.
to be fair;
at 17, i was huge, 6'4" and just under 300 pounds, i played two sports and spent a lot of time in the gym, so making assumptions based on a "17 year old kid" isn't necessarily fair. when i was arrested,with 3 friends, all far smaller than myself, the sherriffs (how do you spell sherriff?) cuffed me and had one officer watching only me while the rest of the kids involved sat on the curb, uncuffed and unwatched. At the time, it pissed me off, but then i realized that they were protecting themselves because i was bigger than all of the cops as well.
that wasa really long story to explain a very simple point. oh well
I thought they put the autistic to sleep after they passed the cute phase! That's amazing, to think that they still roam free after all these years, knocking on people's doors like little silent fairies. It's like a candyland of worldly delights. Does anyone have any family members that are autistic? Can I rent one for a party? They sound delightful! Kisses!
(Not one like this chap though, he sounds like quite the naughty boy! Would love to notch my mark on his cast though--get well soon buttercup!)
I'd say that this sounds like they were kind of high strung, and most likely looking for a fight. Maybe they wanted to try out their new toys???
I don't know. The sittuation sounds like a fuck up, a miss communication mess, that resulted in a massive injury.
But it also screams agro cops looking for a fight if you ask me! And since I am sensitive to police officers at the moment (in the last three years the EPD has had officers convicted of: serial rape, serial sodomy, severe beatings, excessive force, attempted manslaugher, and graffitti on state property, and reprimanded for extreme racial profiling, misuse of non-lethal weapons, and harrasment I think I have a good case). There comes a time when you have to fucking reign cops in, and if serial incidents continue to happen well then, it's fucking time!!!
This makes me wonder what the community is like, and what the cop history is like. Could just be a big fucking mistake, but it could also be an indication that the cops think they are above the law, and have strayed down the path of becoming PIGS.
"Once you stray down the path of PIGS forever will it dominate your destiny!" Yoda
