Wait, isn't that one of the problems with democracy? That " lazy, stupid" can participate? confused ooo aaa

I know you aren't attacking, and I wasn't offended.

Voting in America used to be considered an honor. It was great to put down your name and choose who you think is best for the job. Somewhere along the way, people got lazy, and considered voting a chore. This is one of the many problems with the American system as it stands.

(I'm going to contradict my previous post here, so don't point that out wink )
Unfortunately, if we make voting easier, it will open it up to even more deception and fraud by both sides of the spectrum.

To tell you the truth, I don't know how to solve our current dillema. It is something for minds greater than mine.

Either the results prove I'm not a fascist, or they prove the test is bullshit, or they prove that the results can be manipulated by the person taking the test.

Thanks for the invite, but I think I'm too open minded and serene for that group biggrin

Very thorough!

The truth is that I am afraid of the way the country as a whole is heading. Its not just the republicans or democrats causing the problems too. Both parties believe what they are doing is the right thing. One way we could solve this is to make voting easier to do, so that fat, lazy, stupid americans like myself would feel more motivated to vote. To actually participate in their government. One party or the other isn't the problem, and the other one isn't going to solve all the problems. Its the corruption and greed in our government that is the problem. Both parties are guilty of this.

I vote the way that I do because I believe that the republicans are the best for the job, as incopetent as they are. We all vote for the people we think will do a good job. Until a better system comes along, I will continue to have faith in our government, no matter if republicans or democrats are in control. I hope that they have my and the rest of the citizens of this country's best interests in heart, even though in the back of my head, I'm thinking that I am just getting the shaft, no matter who is in charge.

It truly is hard nowadays, isn't it?

Well I must say that I think you are the most well reasoned "republican" I have met in this board. Most people don't get past my rebuttle, and never respond.

I would like to agree with you about the parties. I for one do not see this as a "republican" problem, I think that the path for this current trend in nationalism was laid down in the early sixties. I also think that both parties have perfected their control over the last forty years, and that if you were to look at it without rose colored glasses (on both sides) you would see that both parties are pretty much the same. They have strayed to far from the flock so to say.

While I understand your reasoning behind voting for republicans, in all honesty I must say that I can't agree with it. I don't vote for a candidate. I vote No Confidence. I do this because I don't believe in not voting, and because I feel that my vote MUST repressent my beliefs. There has not been a democrat in twenty years that I feel I could vote for, nor a republican. I use my vote as a symbolic represenation of the first amendment.

I don't agree with where this country is, or where it has the potential of heading. While I don't think we are Nazi Germany, I think we have the potential of slipping down a similar path real soon if we are not carefull. And, to tell you the truth I think it is the responsibilty of the American people to prevent that, not the elected "representative" government.

But I degress I feel like i am ranting at this point....

....i liked your response, it was well thought out, and un-biased. you don't get that often.

heresy200, are there no candidates even outside of the Democrats and Republicans that you feel represent your beliefs, or at least close enough to them that you would not be opposed to voting for them?

Only 59% of the eiligible voters in the US, little more than half but less than 2/3rds, voted in this past election. Out of that it seems many people that did not vote were those that simply dislike the two main parties, yet consider it a waste to vote a third party. Now imagine if all of them, almost 40% of the eligible voters in this nation, cast their vote for third parties that more closely represented their beliefs. Now, even if they al voted for different 3rd parties, imagine how many of the people that did vote for Republicans or Democrats would no longer think a third party vote was such a waste after all, and take that into consideration in the next election.

I may not have clarified myself enough in my last statement.

There are some regional democrats that ran for House seats that got my vote. There are also several Green local, and national candidates that got my vote.

But, not for the president.

This last election did not offer a single candidate that I felt comfortable voting for for the president of this nation. Ralph Nader sits on the board of Lockhead Martin, and that, in and of itself is justification for me NOT to vote for him. He is profiting off of a company that makes weapons of war, despite his rationalization, I will not suppor that. Enough said.

You are right, there are third parties, and from time to time they deserve my vote. But only when they represent me.

How about this:

Imagine if all of those numbers you spoke of organized, took politics into their own hands, and demanded a change in the system? No army/state/police action whatever could stop that.

I do more then vote, and I do it every day. I am political with my dollar, with my mind, and with my actions. It is only once the rest of those 50+% do so as well, that we will ever see change in this nation.

That is my belief.

Imagine if all of those people, after running a campaign using the name, voted No Confidence in unison! That is saying something
