CHICAGO (Reuters) -- A Catholic university in Milwaukee, Wisconsin has blocked an attempt by Republican students to raise money for a group called "Adopt a Sniper" that raises money for U.S. sharp-shooters in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The students were selling bracelets bearing the motto "1 Shot 1 Kill No Remorse I Decide".

...

The students, representing a group called College Republicans, originally got permission to set up a table at the student union to raise money for U.S. troops in Iraq.

But they chose to promote a group called Adopt a Sniper, which says on its Web site it supports snipers deployed by the United States armed forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

...

Among products sold on the site is a $15 coin with the imprinted phrase "Assistance From A Distance."

In other news, the College Republicans at one of my local universities held a "Straight Pride Week" last week. Reactionary scumbags.

They also like to try to take away other people's right to vote.

It's a culture of life for "us", not "them".

But on a different note, their cause seems okay. In slightly bad taste, but wannabes love engaging in military bravado. Snipers need love too.

Because a lot of the best gear isn't standard issue. The rifle scopes the snipers like cost about $1200 each. Soldiers buy a lot of their own equipment, not just to do a better job of whacking terrorists but to make their lives over there more bearable. It's a gesture of appreciation and support for our soldiers, so naturally it drives liberals like Keith mad.

What part of 'supporting the troops' makes it classy and/or appropriate to wear a bracelet that says '1 Shot 1 Kill No Remorse I Decide'?

This was clearly a provocation. They could have just had a 'Support the Troops' fundraiser, but they go with 'Adopt a Sniper'.

So if it upsets your delicate sensibilities, then they should be silenced? "Hey, that's not classy or appropriate! They're being provactive! Ban them!"

Fuckin' a', man, I wouldn't ban them. I'd let them wallow in their lack of taste. I said they sucked, I didn't say I would have banned them.

However, they were students of a *private*, *religous* university, and thus the school can pretty much tell them to jump and how high.

Technically I don't think they really did anything wrong. Our troops are fighting in iraq, they could always use better gear, so these guys held a fund raiser. It's part of their job description to kill, and as long as they're provoked and its under the right circumstances they have every right to (this is war after all). This was however, in very bad taste. If they had simply said "raise money so our troops can have better gear" it would've been much less offensive, though honestly nothing would've actually changed. I suppose its sort of like eating a cheeseburger while saying that hunting animals is wrong and fucked up. The hunters are in the end simply being more honest about the fact that they do indeed eat meat, and in the end an animal gets grinded for your consumption either way.

It's a private, Jesuit Catholic school. Pacifist. Anti-war. They were lucky to have a 'Support the Troops' fundraiser approved at all there.

It's a classic conservative tactic.

Someone says "I don't like what you're doing, I find it completely tasteless and wrong." And immediately the conservative says "you liberals are all about censorhip trying to stop us from voicing our opinions! You're just as bad as the fascists! Stop oppressing us!" And because there are apparently plenty of people who will literally believe anything, supporters come out claiming that conservatives (who now control every branch of government, major media outlet and most corporations in America) are somehow always made to be the victims.

How true. But a real conservative would work in something about activists judges, the ACLU and the New York Times (add homosexual agenda if it's a politician running in a red state).

That's a common refrain, because it happens to be true and it happens frequently if opinions are expressed that don't toe the PC leftist line on American campuses. Don't believe me? You work at a university. Try it yourself. Or do it here if you like. All the humorless prigs come out of the woodwork if you dare disagree with them.

Or, you coud try visting a Christian college campus, and hand out gay- tolerance pamphlets, and see how wel those folks take it.

Sung to the tune of Winter Wonderland:

In the street, there's an Arab.
Trigger breaks, now he's all d e a d .
.308 round
Shot that ***** down.
Stalkin' in a sniper wonderland.

Spinal shot, I had a clear sight.
It turned him off, like a porch light.
Call his mom on the phone,
He's not coming home.
Stalkin' in a sniper wonderland.

~refrain~
On the target we can paint a tur-ban
And we can pretend it's Osama B
We can dump a couple dozen mags in
It's a lot of of fun for you and me.

Oh, the bodies up are pilin'
In my hide, I sit a smilin'
They've limited sight
But I've got starlight
Stalkin' in a sniper wonderland.
