I don't care how it's said; I want to play with them now that I've been reading about them and drooling over Ciel's set all day.

I really miss my castle set. I used to have the knights fight gas station employees and stuff from the other sets.

One reason why Lego is a mass noun (and therefore has no plural) but Hoover is a count noun and can be plural is that it's uncommon to have just 1 piece of Lego unless you're in a hospital having it removed or something.

But this is only half the story. "Lego" is a count noun in AmE, but a mass noun in BrE. This is the point that the UKers here complaining about "Legos" are missing.

"I have some Legos" in AmE is on the model of "I have some [=more than one] pencils," but "I have some Lego" in BrE is on the model of "I have some [=an indeterminate quantity of] milk." The comparison to "sheep" is a red herring, since in neither case is there a plural formed without a terminal "s."

Say it now, out loud to yourself.

Sheeps

Everytime you say Legos you sound like you do when you say Sheeps.

edited to say that it's not just us UKers, it's anyone who doesn't want to sound like they do when they say Sheeps.

I see your point. I was arguing that BrE was more grammatically correct than AmE, though on the basis that it's reasonably likely that a person has (or is using) only one pencil, but improbable that someone would only have one piece of lego. This is what makes it a mass noun and not a count noun, thus making the use of "Lego" in the plural more correct.

Hopefully sometime someone will explain to me how "aluminium" lost the second i on the way over the Atlantic, so that it doesn't fit with the trend of other metals ending in "ium"

Maybe we should rename them sodum, uranum, potassum etc. for simplicity wink
