Was and am still saddened by the loss of this young man. Then today I recieved a call from the military that a condition has arose requiring my son being flown out of Iraq to the hospital in Germany. Details are sketchy at the moment but the military has called twice to keep me informed. They have offered to fly me to Germany ...... so now I sit and pace and wait. Yes SG this war has come home today.

I don't know these people but that doesn't change the fact that it is absolutely terrible when people die in war. An armed society is a polite society? Somehow I think the NRA is wrong about that.

as Horace said so long ago, "Dulce Decorum est pro Patria mori"

and I don't think Wilfred Owen would have cause to argue.

He did what he had to do
what we all do
I didn't know him
but I know so many like him
who now live
and die
in a world of sand and fire
that
due to god's mercy
and their sacrifices
I will never have to know.

We are each less for his loss
and when our hearts
catch in our throats
and the tears of realization flow
when we know
that someday all must be mourned
it's a terrible gift we're given.

Peace, peace,
find peace, dear one
friend I never knew
lover or brother
May the end of your journey
be all you deserve.

I'm lost

As I stand on a mountaintop,
The great bird approaches.
He is small in my sight
But grows larger as he nears
Until I am blessed with the full sight
Of his graceful wings,
Proud countenance, strength, and good company.
All too quickly he grows small again
On the horizon
And disappears from view.
And I call out,
“There! He’s gone.”
But gone from where?
Gone from my sight is all.
He is just as large in spirit and might
As when he left my side.
His diminished size is in me –
Not him.
But there are other mountains beyond me,
And at the precise moment when I note the great bird's
Departure from my view ,
I know there are new eyes taking up the sight of him
And fresh voices calling out
"Here he comes!"

To all of those who are no longer with us, Rest in Peace. My hubby was over there for almost a year and I can tell you that it sucks playing the waiting game to see if he is ok. Hit very close to home with me.

I was over there for a year. one of my very good friends was killed by an IED. it's never a good thing for folks to pass before their time, but whether or not we agree with what's going on over there, my friend and others that won't ever come home died trying to bring what freedoms we have to others.
hopefully soon we'll all be outta there, but until then, we just have to pray(if you're into that) for those still there.
