And I don't care how much aid France has pledged. We have individual states with bigger economies. California has the 5th largest economy in the world. Besides, France isn't looked to as a leading nation.

Someone needs to tell the French that.
I read your first sentence and you were a day late and a dollar short.

Now that the US has upped the amount of aid, this is kind of a moot point, but I found it interesting that Pfizer donated $35 million in respnse to the tragedy. that's right one of our commercial companies manages to pony up as much $$$ as the US gov't.
I would imagine its because they make more of a profit then our government every year.

And exactly how much has France pledged ?
Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth.
if you take in consideration population france has pledged a similar amount to the united states, although a little less
but anyways, the argument really shouldnt be about pointing fingers at other countries, i think it's reasonable ffor any nation to start with a low figure and with the gain of more info to raise thier pledges, so i think both the united states and france and most western countries are on the right track, and hopefully they continue to try and work to help those countries and people affected by the tsunami

Yeah I really wasn't pointing a finger at France.. It was more or less directed at someone who always has something glib to say.
Clearly, .. just because Bush ,( and by default the US government )wasn't as quick to the draw on the rhetorical aspect, people once again find it convinient to wax moronic.
The US government may have been slow with the rhetoric...however I don't think that anyone can criticize them for being slow in taking ACTION..
I can only imagine the logistical nightmare this reflief operation must be.
First thing I thought of after the tsunami was, Bush would be remembered as The Greatest American President Of All Time if he announced that all military operations in Iraq are suspended so we can send troops and supplies to Sri Lanka to help in the relief effort.
I know it didn't happen, but what if it had?
Yeah I just figured out that posting on an old thread throws it forward on the board. I am way so new at this--what is this, my 8th post? You guys make me laugh--I love SG
