Despite a title of questionable cultural merit, the Scottish company known as Traffic Games insists that today's release of a game called JFK Reloaded was made with the intention to bring about a better understanding surrounding the events of the JFK assassination. The game is available as an Internet download for under ten dollars.

Kirk Ewing, managing director of the company, declared that he saw the potential for misinterpretation and criticism by the public, but that he took care to respect the Kennedy family and historical accuracy. However, Kennedy's relatives are livid.

"It is despicable," said David Smith, a spokesman for Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy, the late president's brother. He was informed of the game on Friday but declined further comment.

The game itself seems to be very historically accurate, instead of the Grand Theft Auto-ish killing spree that much of the public is picturing. The goal is to fire shots accurately from the sixth floor of the Texas School-Book Depository, which is where assassin Lee Harvey Oswald fired his fatal shots onto President Kennedy's motorcade.

Points are awarded or subtracted based on how accurately the shots match the official version of events as documented by the Warren Commission, which investigated Kennedy's assassination.

Shooting the image of Kennedy in the right spots in the right sequence adds to the score, while "errors" like shooting first lady Jacqueline Kennedy lead to deductions.

"Hey dude, how's that new sniper game coming?"

"Aw bro it sucks. The AI is buggy, the movements are jerky, and the graphics is circa Atari 7800."

"Shit. How are we gonna recoup the loss on this one?"

"Ooh! Ooh! I know!"

who gives a shit? American games companies quiet happily manufacture moronic shoot 'em ups modelled on the gulf wars which are endorsed by the military! they're bieng used as a back door recruitment vehicle, as least all this game's trying to do is make some sales by using a famous name. the only difference between this and countless other PC games is that someone's decided to add a famous name and stir up some controversy.

I've seen the game developed by the military that was altered by the company based on it's architecture for mainstream production. Was this actually endorsed by the military?

What about that new Vietnam shooter? I don't know anything about it. Is it an anti-hero game (a la the GTA series) or an accurate recreation of the Vietnam war environment?

if you're going to make a game that's supposed to explore the events and history surrounding the JFK assassination, i think titling it "JFK Reloaded" is in poor taste.

Read the FAQ, guys. This isn't a handful of people writing a game to piss off the "tasteful" citizens of America, this is a legitimate attempt at re-creating a historical situation with a painstaking computer simulation. They implemented a physics model, motorcade driver behaviour, timing aspects, bullet drop, and a whole multitude of miniscule details. After every shot, they view from the scope wobbles while Oswald operates the bolt-action to chamber another round! That is insane! Even if you think the game is in poor taste, you still have to commend the attention to detail and professional approach taken.

Of course, the high-score feature is somewhat unneccesary, but I think that if every game was this deeply researched and employed the same work and creative ethic, I would be more willing to shell out 50 US dollars for a copy of the newest FPS.
