as robert anton wilson says, vote for yourself, no one else can represent you as well as you can.

(i'm still voting kerry. between me and kerry, he's probably the lesser of two evils.)

my choice of presidential candidate won't matter much considering the electoral college is the real deal.

Actually, considering your location and the quirks of the electoral college, your vote is very meaningful, more so than most other people in the country. Ohio is a swing state and has the sixth most electoral votes of any state in the country, and a lot political analysts believe that Ohio will decide who our next president is.

but i feel left out that i'm not for one group or another. this feels more like a "who's team is gonna win" than an election.

There's more than a little bit of that going around. It's understandable considering the stakes in the election, but doesn't make it any less annoying. I say follow BillHaverChuck's advice and try to learn a little bit about how the candidates stand on the issues you've expressed your concerns for. Then make your choice based on their positions, and consider yourself an "informed" voter.

I can think of lots or reasons to not vote for Kerry and i would be hard pressed to think of one reason to vote for Bush. I honestly and truly don't want to vote for either candidate and yet this election seems to important not to vote for anyone.

I agree with s5 (and Mr. Wilson). I know what kind of shit I would get into in the Oval office and it's bound to be a lot worse (or at least more embarassing) than anything Kerry would think up.

i believe in stem cell research, but not 3rd term abortions. i like equal rights but i don't want people to get things for free. immigration is okay but only if we can feed them too, we don't put enough work into our own country's education and we are falling behind. i agree with free trade we should be able to get the best products at the lowest prices, but i don't want it to come at the cost of child labor and harming others. our own economy is a concern, but then so is our culture. we receive mixed messages from our media and government. you want to own a gun? go ahead. we've got 'em. just in case the zombies come. if you shoot a person, you should be punished. terrorism should not be tolerated in any form. if i have to sacrifice a bit of my privacy, so be it. no one should get a tax break. we all use the government's money in one way or another. however, the government needs a bit of a refresher on budgeting. i believe children should be children but not spoiled. there's too much empahsis on school funding and not enough on learning. there are too many schools that are subpar and in disrepair. this is not a fair playing field. but, we elect those officials into office.

so, i'm still confused. help.

Well, lets start with the issues, I may get flamed for some of this but I don't care. Thrd Term abortions are only performed when either the child or the mothers life is in danger, at no other times. It is a decision that should be decided between a doctor and a mother at that time, not the government. Partial-birth abortion is a term used by pro lifers and people to scare people into thinking it's horrible and happening for all the wrong reasons. Most of the issues are not going to be better overnight no matter who we have as president. For education, it seems that the focus on both sides is higher learning and not where it matters the most, right in the public schools for k thru 12. That is where all the school funding seems to be going. I think we are doing way too much outsourcing in this country right now and if we can keep the jobs here instead of outsourcing, America will pay a slightly higher price for things since more people will be working. We all know the war is for Oil and is no longer about terrorism. If you do not like Bush at all, do not vote for an independent candidate since it's like giving a vote to him. Everything else you mentioned will probably never be touched in the 4 years either one of them will be in office. Your best choice is Kerry.

Oh, also a president that can speak the English language and is not a convicted felon would be nice too. But that has nothing to do with issues...just something that has always bothered me about Bush. biggrin

I voted for GW the first time ... I know shame, shame ... thinking although he wasn't smart he would recognize this and hire good people ... Of course he delegated too much and the hawks took over .....

I am voting for Kerry this time because Civil Rights have eroded far too much in a false war.

Hope that helps .. vote for consiscence ... and partial-birth does not equal 3rd term abortion .... ecq
