Talk of the Nation dude mentioned a skew due to "young people and their cell phones" ... I presume this is due to polling results coming from home phone calls?

Someone please essplayn this phenomenal skew?

yep, that's exactly it. pollsters are not allowed to call cell phones and there a whole lot of them out there nowadays, especially among the young'uns. if young people turn out in the numbers i think they're going to, these polls are going to mean jack squat. not to mention the polls target "likely voters." this does nothing to include those that are voting for the first time because of importance.

I like the concept behind this site, because I find the national polls to be completely useless, in this sense: we don't vote for President on a national level. How does it break down by state?

Until we dispose of the archaic, silly Electoral College, the nationwide vote is useless.

You mean until we get rid of the ridiculous and dangerous popular vote, the Electoral College is useless, right?

Cause that's what I mean.

Yeah if it were more FOX polls there'd be a lot more red there.

the fox polls have been trending toward kerry as well.

Fox lies, except when they present news you like, huh?

no, i was just stating that the fox polls have been trending toward kerry as well. that wasn't intended as an endorsement of fox in general or their polls in particular.

I voted for Bush already. My prediction is Kerry will win the electoral vote and Bush will win the popular vote. I hope that Kerry really means what he says about not pulling out of Iraq.

Well, at least based on the polling data this seems to be a fairly likely outcome. If it is the case we'll see how Kerry handles a weak mandate. Bush never even acknowledged it.

Either way I still think the electoral college system is stupid.

The electoral college was a good idea when the country was first formed, because it was meant to combat the population's inability to get information at the time. Nowadays with TV and the internet, anybody can get ahold of just about any information they want, so it is no longer needed.

I will be glad when it is finally repealed from the constitution.

The thing that causes the skewing is the fact that many young people have done away with home phones and rely entirely on their cells so can't be reached for polling purposes.
