In all the discussion of the Patriot Act, I never see people mention the fact that it is temporary, and designed to be so. That it wasn't an "administration" thing. It was a governemnt thing. No one was forced to sign it, and the excuses that people use to absolve their "non-administration" politicians for signing it never hold water.
If it isn't needed the system will right itself and it won't pass again.
You are right. The patriot act will expire cuz it's usefullness has been outlived. Just like that silly Assult weapons ban.
Noo, you are wrong. Government is not a self-correcting system. If it were we would not need to vote. There are people in office now, BAD people, who will do what they need to do to maintain the control they have. The patriot act and the patriot act II will stay around until we rid ourselves of these power hungry law makers.

Sadly, I have to concur. The Patriot Acts are far too sweeping to be simply dissolved. Perhaps, a future "liberal" President (unlikely from either party) will tinker with the acts, but I've great doubts that they will be in their entirety rescinded. Not without a full-scale revolution of some sort. Now, when I invoke the R-word, most likely think I'm a nutjob. However, to think that this nation will continue on, forever more, without some sort of uprising is to deny myriad history lessons. As fat and as unblinking as the citizenry may be, the day will come. Woah. . tangent. . .sorry. . .oops. . . back in line, must get back in line. . .
If it isn't needed the system will right itself and it won't pass again.
You display remarkable naivete.
Going to agree with waxangel...
If that were the truth, the ban on assault weapons would be reinstated. A bill that had majority support among voters, senators, representatives, and the support of the two Presidential candidates... Yet, still it was allowed to lapse mostly due to pressure from the NRA and other lobbyist groups. So, don't tellme that the system will right itself.
