You make a good point.

You don't have to maintain them at first world standards, but stopping them from dying because they can't wash their hands seems like a good idea.

1.8 million children die each year, thats about one every 15 seconds, from water related diseases. That's mostly diarrhoea.

It seems wrong that people spend more on pet food than they're prepared to spend halving the number of people without access to clean water.

You've said "What's wrong with dying?"; why is there such a huge outcry about 500 murdered children in Chechnya, when 6000 children die each day because they can't wash their hands and drink clean water?

1.10 UKP, that's about 2.00 USD, provides a tap that can be used by 40 people.

The amount of money needed is, really, tiny. The benefits it would bring are huge, and not just for the developing world who get the water but for the rich westerners too.
