I am sure we are all shocked at the terrible scenes in Russia. I hope that we can put old resentments behind and help Russia with its terrorism problem.

The news is just saying that 9 of the terrorists were Arabs confused confused confused

Does anyone know if there are links between Al Qaeda and the Chechens?

well that's a non-sequitur if ever I heard one.

Where ever they are from, they are scum. True freedom fighters will take on the military, only cowardly vermin will deliberatly target kids.

An overwhelming percentage of Chechens are Muslim. Whether or not these people were Al-Qaida or not remains to be seen but early reports indicated at least a tenuous connection.

As for helping Russia out with its terror problems? If they let us, that would be great. But they're rather adament about trying to fix their mess themselves.

Did anyone read the report about the female terrorists? They now suspect that the two downed airliners where done in by women carrying explosives, and it is reported that there is at least two, and possibly more, women among the terrorists at the massacre at the school. This makes me indescribably sad... frown

I'd expect them to, what makes me sad is that these women are behaving in a violent, destructive and selfish manner typically reserved for those of us with testicles. It's like the feminist movement gone overboard... eeek

Not to mention the woman at the Subway station that blew herself up killing 9 with her the day before the school standoff began.

And no, Muslim does not equate Arab. Arab means to come from the Arabian Peninsula, and that is all, it has nothing to do with religious faith.

No. A Muslim is someone who practices Islam. "Arab" is an ethnicity. Iranians are Muslims, but they're largely not Arabs.

No. A Muslim is someone who practices Islam. "Arab" is an ethnicity. For instance, Iranians are largely Muslim, but they're largely not Arabs. And needless to say, a lot of the Muslims in the US are not Arabs.

and not all Arabs are Muslims

Either way, your comment was a bit fatuous Idjiit.

Any group of any religion or cause that deliberately targets civilians, are total moronic evil cunts who deserve no respect and even less sympathy.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass really, but that's old news. The airliners had one woman on each passenger list that were unclaimed or inquired about by people looking for loved ones. And yep, several of the school takers were women. This is all so terrible to me. frown

Yep, women can be evil too. Shocking i know. But over there, women homicide bombers and terrorists are mostly referred to as "Black Widows." It's not as uncommon as you'd think.

I haven't seen any really good evidence of any strong ties between al-Qaida and the Chechen resistance. I think there are some people in it who have received al-Qaida training, but whether there's an operational relationship is up in the air.

I think Putin's used that line to try to keep America from complaining too much about him blowing the shit out of Chechens.

I'm glad you find it so amusing. My point about the feminist comment was that too often women seek empowerment through emulating the most negative characteristics and habits of the male sex. I'd prefer to see women finding their own meaningful and effective manner in which to express their views rather than copying the worst men can do.

so these women who are willing to die for their beliefs have no will of their own and are "seeking empowerment by emulating men"? you, my friend, are a cheuvanist.

Actually, I'm not a chauvinist (I believe that's what you're trying to spell.) I just have higher expectations for the behavior of women than I do for men. I am a man, and I know fully well wherein our predilection for problem solving lies. It is typically with violence, especially when matters of religious or social conflict are at hand. Usually women seek alternative methods of problem solving that don't involve high explosives or shooting people.

Putting women on a pedestal is still chauvinism.

Oh, that's rich UpTight - you make a most likely incorrect point about the composition of this terrorist group (who are more likely Muslim, not Arabs) and then you slag on me for pointing it out? Get a grip. Stop focusing on the religion and start asking why anyone, including (Christian) terrorist groups in Ireland, the United States and South America would feel like they need to resort to these kinds of tactics. Identifying these fuckers as "Arabs" accomplishes absolutely nothing except fuel virulent hatred for a group of people who are in the vast majority not terrorists. whatever

For some answers about why Chechens so virulantly hate Russians, visit this thread here.

I'm not putting women on a pedestal, what I'm saying is that based on thousands of years of recorded history there is a pattern that has formed. I'm well aware that the history I refer to is inherently biased by those who recorded it, but it is still all that we have to base our current knowledge on. Two thousand years of history says that men try to solve many of society's problems through violence. The accounts of cruelty and hatred perpetrated on such a large scale by women are much fewer and far between, being anecdotal at best. You'd all best think deeply and examine the basis of your own thoughts and ideas before you start calling people derogatory names.

Well, I suppose its a step up from Stocukula's "Haw haw, you're not part of our coalition." but really, how the fuck are we going to help Russia? They've invaded twice. They use disappearances, torture, civilian reprisal, illegal weapons and murder. They hired what are essentially mercenaries, sent them to Chechnya and then didn't pay them. They reduced Grozny to rubble and have killed over 100,000 civilians.

Where, exactly, do you see us fitting in?

Or what? You'll bombard us with more faux history? All humans, men and women use the means available to them to assert themselves. In absolutely every instance where women were given the same means as men, they used the same means as men. I suggest you read a book on the Tudors just for starts before offering tripe such as "The accounts of cruelty and hatred perpetrated on such a large scale by women are much fewer and far between, being anecdotal at best."
