oh no, weapons that are designed to be non-lethal during war-time may have long lasting effects... oh no oh no...
IT's FUCKING WAR! Who cares! Our enemies use any torture tactic and any weapon they can get their hands on. So we want to use a non-lethal weapon that MAY have long lasting effects, and people bitch?
waaaaaaaaah
Except that these weapons aren't being discussed solely for usage in a combat scenario, but for other purposes like crowd control. Purposes that could be used on our own civilians.
And honestly, your logic fails me. Because the leaders of our respective countries are having a political dispute, and some people in that country choose to use less than savory tactics to further the ends of their leader, that justifies the usage of something that may have detrimental long-term side effects for a large portion of the affected populace in that country? You realize that many of the countries against whom the US has fought have ended up being strong allies later on. Like England, Germany, Japan and Russia, just to name a few. Knowingly using a weapon against them that will continue to hurt people in the country long after the conflict is over will not help in restoring normal diplomatic relations. The object of a war is not the complete destruction of another country and everyone in it, it's to resolve political issues.

Cool...however...
I tend to see that the possible side effects of stopping muscle movements is not starting it again...let's just hope that some of these stun rays are not used for crowd control until we get the side effects and treatments nailed down...
As much as I would love being paralyzed from the neck down for throwing a brick to express my doscontentment with a particular world leader or organizations, I'd much rather have the use of my legs and spend a night or two in jail...
There isn't a weapon made, that is right/perfect for every situation that one might encounter. Whether it be personal defense, law enforecment or the military. Everything has it's plus and minus, depending on the situation at hand. I"m sure that if these weapons actually come into production and distribution, that they will each find their own little niche where they work the best and will be used for those purposes. I'm also sure that conventional firearms will still have their own niche/usefulness and be around for a long time to come.
Hmmmmmmm.......well, I forgot about a trebuchet! They are really handy, ...especially if you have alot of large, dead, bloated farm animals that you want to fling at someone!....HEHEHEHE....
