I am of the belief that nuclear proliferation was a goal of many nations well before the Iraq war,so I really don't agree that it has aggravated the problem or made it anymore urgent. Iran of course, being the exception...the mullahs are in a very tenuous position right now and may very well soon have a civil war on their hands, plus there is that question of all those new shiny Western bases right next door..
i also believe that pre-emptive strikes would be in order if they refuse to listen to the demands of the rest of the world that they cease any and all such programs, and it's looking that way so far.

I completely agree. Were I Iran's leader, I'd feel the pressure too. So I understand the motivation... but it seems like awfully poor strategy to rely on the US not using force to stop the acquisition of nukes...
P.S. North Korea already has nukes.
Ok. I just hadn't seen any hard proof. That N. Korean leader guy is bonkers.

Alotta people may poo-poo this as a site for pure hawks, but you can't deny the wealth of information.HERE
if Iran wants to play with around with the possibility of having Nuclear weapons there going to have to ask themselves if they really want to be attack by the IDF in the same way the Israelis attacked Iraq in 81 becuase of the Nuclear "power plant"
The Israelis will do whatever it takes to make sure that their exsistance as a nation is a sure thing.
I think North Korea is on the verge of having Nuclear arms but I think most of what they do is just Saber Rattling to scare the South Koreans and the Americans into paying them off so Kim Jong Il can stay in power. I think if they gain Nuclear weapons then Americans, South Korea and Japan will make certain that they loose it real soon.

The had, a few months ago, an estimated 6 nuclear weapons. The have the ability and capacity now to produce enough plutonium to make many more. Not only that, but N Korea has missiles that can carry these nukes to the US West coast. This is no mere sabre rattling. This is a huge concern to the whole Far East.
As for Iran, the centrifuges, If I am not grossly mistaken, are for processing spent fuel rods. Spent as in no longer usefull in the production of nuclear power. So why would you want to process spent fuel rods in a centrifuge? Only to produce weapons grade plutonium is all. Very not cool.
Heck, North Korea doesn't even have to hit the US west coast.
They just have to hit South Korea and Japan.
Japan are the ones have really been giving money to the North Korean's for the last 15 or so years. After all Kim Ill-Jung has only 'test fired' a couple of missles over the Japanese home islands.
We would be forced to level North Korea. The question in all of this is what China would do.
Personally I think North Korea has more potential to cause WW3 than either Iran or India/Pakistan.
And we won't be able to let the Israli's hit the Iranian Nuke plants. Because to get there they have to fly over US controlled Air Space. And if we let them do that..... We are going to be forced to kill pretty much everyone who claims the Islamic faith out of self defense. You think Isreal has it bad now? All those militants, worldwide, would be gunning for us if we let it happen.

Their Primary missile the Taepo-Dong missle has a approx. rang of 4,300 which in my guesstimation is dangerous to our troops in South Korea and Japan. I feel that if the NK decides to use these missile against our troops the Patriot Missile system will defend against that threat.

The Patriot was useless in the first Gulf War. ( Zero missiles intercepted).
Has its technology improved to the point where it would be more effective against a missile I assume to be superior to a Scud?
My main point being that it is probably unwise to abandon diplomacy in favour of complete reliance on technology to solve the problem.

We are now armed with the Pac - 3 missile. it is highly effective in tests and in Operation Iraqi freedom it had six confirmed interceptions. Also the "old" Patriot system had two sucessful interceptions during this war too (they were manned by Kuwaiti Units). Also a joint Missle Defense system (not the national shield but a theater missile defense) between Israel and the US has shown true promise against the type of threat shown by the North Koreans.

Wait. . . I thought after the other islamic and arab nations started to quiver with fear seeing the resounding success that was the Iraq invasion, they would all democratize over night, arrest all Al-Quaeda members within their borders and attend ice cream socials with the Israeli cabinet?
well when only two Muslim nations actually belive that Israeli actually exsists I don't think Ice Cream socials will be happening any time soon

Maybe not overnight... but you can't say that US presence in the region has destablized some of the totalitarian regimes in the area... It's a step in the right direction, in my opinion.
