It's not the discussion that's one sided, it's the opinions. Mine is that there's more than one side and that neither is clearly the morally superior side and to argue that one is over the other is idiotic.

I'm an army of one.

I pretty much agree with this. I see both sides as equally fucked up and worthy of scorn.

Scorn and sympathy. The everyday person who lives there but doesn't partake in the violence are the real victims, Palestinian or Israeli.

True. It's very easy to lose sight of that fact... the media kinda makes it seem like everyone over there is a militant or a terrorist.

Yeah, but you ndon't really see palestinian citizens marching in the streets for peace do you? The citizens on the palestinian side would rather go to the funeral of a Hamas leader, or throw rocks at israeli soldiers.

Uh huh. Every single fucking Palestinian is murdurous and vengeful. From the 2 year old toddler to the 97 year old grandmother. Thousands and thousands of people all think exactly alike and have the exact same opinions and level of hatred without any compassion or sympathy.

I wish I had your ability to know exactly what Palestinian citizens would rather do. You must be really really fucking smart to be able to read ALL of their minds like that. whatever

I didn't say every single palestinian. I just said you never see palestinians protesting for peace, while you do see that on the Israeli side. But you do see them cheering when Israelis are killed, do you see Israelis cheering when palestinians are killed?

All I see is whatever our media chooses to show us. I've never actually been there, have you?

A couple of years ago I was out to dinner with some friends, one of whom works for NPR and two others who are Jewish. They had just heard a report on NPR about the conditions of living that Palestinians experience and asked my NPR friend why they would broadcast something so "anti semetic". What they had actually heard, for the first time, was the other side of the story, and not an anti semetic slant in behalf of NPR.

The point is, if all the information you get is from second and third hand sources that is heavily biased towards Israel, you really have no idea what the full picture is, and so your statement falls apart because it's based only on that, and not form your experience.

A few months ago there were statements made by Israeli officals bragging that if they don;t like a news story that CNN is about to air, all they have to do is call them in Atlanta and put a stop to it. We discussed it here on CE boards.

the contrary would be totally amazing as the education books themselves are so blinded by hatred and near-revisionism that there are talks within the EEC to retrieve thr funds aimed at education in Palestine...

everything points to hate and everyone in command in the occupied territories make well sure there cannot be palestinian tentatives to have a peace movment....in that they are of course helped by a jubilatory Sharon....

i wonder one thing: why did people like Sadate and Hussein made peace with Israel ? isn't there something than can be analysed and maybe reproduce so we have a peaceful solution ? Isn't that one of the reason Syria, Irak and Iran are just flooding some palestinian terrorist organisation with money and orders to be as brutal and savage as possible so war goes on and on....War serves them more than peace !

Think of this: a peaceful Palestine and a peaceful Israel living side by side is THE ultimate weapon to those regimes (i included Irak cos we know the US time in there is sooner than later going to be over...)

I would guess that Palestinians don't have peace protests because they fear the israelis will, I don't know... maybe fire a rocket into the crowd? Anyway, Israelis are not above cheering while others die.

That right there is my biggest issue with the Palestinian Authority. I find it very hard to believe that Arafat has the power to rein in Hamas or any other radical movement. On the other hand, he has the responsibility and the ability to withdraw vitriolic, hateful textbooks and television programming that go beyond "opinion" and straight to government-sponsored inciting.

i wonder one thing: why did people like Sadate and Hussein made peace with Israel ? isn't there something than can be analysed and maybe reproduce so we have a peaceful solution ?

Because Israel stomped them at warfighting. They simply learned they couldn't beat them. For Hussein, they choice was even easier, as he was being set up to be "our boy" over there, to counter Soviet influence. For Saddat, it was simply the inevitable realization that no Arabic coalition would defeat Israel in open war. Saddat also happened to be more progressive than, say, Syria's leadership. Arafat won't change his course, though. Part of it is that he isn't powerful enough to call down Hamas & co. (and he won't risk loss of face by telling them to disarm only to be publicly humiliated when they tell him to fuck off), and part of it is just cult of personality. The man has called himself a modern-day "Saladin" in the past, and at his advanced age I think he is just loony and stubborn enough to keep doing his thing until he dies. Say what you will about Ariel Sharon (and he's no angel by any means), but I don't really even register him on my radar. He is simply the inevitable political outcome to Arafat telling Ehud Barak that he'd rather opt for violence and death than take 99% of all the shit he was demanding. What did the world expect? Israel elected a dove, went for dove policy, and got dropped on their ass. Were they going to re-elect a guy whose policy tanked (not through any fault of his own), hoping that Arafat would change his mind? No. They followed the (il)logical human thinking process and elected someone to play hardball. And people are surprised at what's going on!!!
