Have you had your fill today of pants-on-head stupidity? If not, click here to read an article at a leading military blog!

Yes, any two things that happen are necessarily linked and casual. Also, you get to choose which thing causes the other thing.

Last not least, as figures from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan show, relative to their number military women are 90 percent less likely to be killed than military men. In other militaries around the world, incidentally, women’s share among the casualties is much lower still. Uniformed women, in other words, are not pulling their weight. Whether this is because public opinion will not stand for large numbers of dead servicewomen or because the women themselves have found a thousand ways to avoid going where the bullets are is immaterial. Probably both factors play a role. Instead of fighting, women get all the cushy jobs.

Oh boy! Greasy insinuations and speculation followed immediately by a confirmation. Do women use men as human shields? It is almost certain that it has happened at some point.

Yeah that was one of my favorite bits: women don't die in high numbers like men in combat, so they shouldn't be in combat because combat! Combat! Death! Combat! Reasons!

Clearly the world needs all-women armies, who will use their bullet dodging skills overpower the enemy while suffering not a single casualty! (But what happens when two all women armies meet, do they fight endlessly, always able to avoid injury from the other side?)

Famed military historians tell us it all comes down to how many men they can use as human shields.

Apparently.

The thing is that bullets recognize women for the weak, frail, beautiful creatures that they are and promptly swerve to avoid harming them.

There is talk coming up about women (maybe) having to register for Selective Service.

I think it's a valid point. Fair is fair, now everyone registers. Seems simple to me.

I consider it fair for women to have to register.

On the draft / "new resources" train of this thread - it is my understanding that the military doesn't particularly want to use the draft, ever. It's in all ways better to have willing soldiers. Also, it should be noted (and may not be completely unrelated, who knows) that a decreasing percentage of US youths are fit to serve.. So for the military, it probably makes sense to expand the potential recruiting pool at this time. Lastly, it's not exactly unheard of for women to serve on the front lines in the military. I would guess that we are looking at the Israeli army for tips and lessons learned.

Registering for the draft (for men) is a requirement for getting certain student loans, being eligible for government jobs, and a whole bunch of other things. So, really, they should either drop the requirement or extend it to women.

I agree. I think that will strengthen vocal objections to going to war.
