That depends on which "good old days" you're referring to.
If it's the "good old days" of SG where MacBastard could say whatever he wanted without anyone complaining...and it was funny.....that was back when the site was tiny, pretty much everyone knew each other on the site...and there was more familiarity. Now...more people = less familiarity...which means you have to play nice with more people.
Racistiest? Is that when you dehumanize someone and the words just leave the sweetest taste in your mouth, so much so that you go back for a second helping if hate?

But to get back on topic....why would Palin use an expression like "shuck and jive", which has basically disappeared from modern lexicon because of its racial overtones unless she was purposefully trying to be offensive? Was it her, or another Republican, that used a racially loaded expression, (this was maybe a year ago) and when it created a firestorm claimed that they didn't know that it was a "racial" term?
EDIT: It was Bachmann. With her "tar baby" misstep.
While true, it's also true that her one example that was actually aimed at Obama was called out on the use of the phrase for precisely the same reason.
Her other examples, Chris Matthews and Jay Carney, used it in circumstances that didn't have anything like racial overtones. Which, for anyone who speaks, you know, English, makes a difference.

You gotta love the "it's ok cuz other white people said it, too!!!11!1!" defense.

Guys, come on. You know she's not racist she has friends who are black.

That was them.
So NOT the good old days where you could just say "retard" and expect everyone to laugh along with you?

Obama sounded like a retard when he was making his "aircraft carrier and submarine" comment. Or maybe 9 year old Jerk would be better. Either way, not the way our president should act.

You can see why I would think it was Palin.
"Blood libel." That was Palin.
yes. bingo. she's got a knack for obscure and offensive phrases.

Life sure was easier when you could be thoughtlessly cruel without any concern for who might be affected, wasn't it?
When I was younger, I was on a different forum and saw a dumb argument. "I know what I'll do," I said to myself. "I'll jump in with a snide comment that will cut them both off at the knees, and then Zoidberg will be the popular one!"
So I, being younger, decided the best comment to make was one I'd seen gaining some traction as a meme (though this was before the word "meme" had entered the public consciousness). I posted, "Arguing on the Internet is like competing in the Special Olympics. Even if you win you're still retarded." Hilarious, I know.
I did, of course, get some people saying "lol." However, I got one response from a woman who was a friend of mine. She wasn't thrilled with the joke. In fact, she went on to tell me about a relative of hers who competed in the Special Olympics and wanted to know if I thought his accomplishments meant nothing because hey, he's just a "retard."
So my consciousness was raised that day. If you have the opportunity to become a little more aware of the world and the people in it and only suffer a bit of a verbal lashing on the Internet in exchange, I hope you'll take advantage of that opportunity and consider it a lesson learned on the cheap. The other option is to dismiss the complaints and assert that your behavior does not, in fact, require any sort of adjustment. Down that road lies Bigotryville. I suggest you avoid it. It's a shitty, cramped, dark, uncomfortable little town with a high rate of bed bug infestations and really bad pollution. The only reason to stay there is because you're too lazy to make the effort to move. Don't be a lazy bigot. It'll cost you friends, and probably lower your life expectancy.

I love this with the burning passion of a thousand Suns. May I use it in class sometime?
