They are just as destructive as modern handguns and harder to ballistically fingerprint and trace.

Most blackpowder pistols are considerably less accurate than modern ones in the hands of anyone except a good marksman.

There is also the issue of reloading - the time and hassle required.

Finally ballistic fingerprinting is not all its cracked up to be...

Black power is pretty accurate; it is not all round ball, they do make conical shaped bullets. Sabots can be really nasty and rifling of barrels is not uncommon.

There is also the issue of reloading - the time and hassle required.

Drop-in preloaded cylinders is how it was done in the Wild West.

The fact still stands that black powder firearms are not considered firearms by the BATF.

Now we delve into the grey area of black powder revolvers with conversion barrels.

No FFL is required to order/receive these parts off the web. All a criminal needs to do is drop one of then into a black power revolver and he/she will be shooting smokeless power ammunition in no time flat.

Funny how HCI and VPC are all gung-ho about limiting the sale and possession of assault weapons but this little backdoor to easy gun procurement for a criminal with ill intent is overlooked in pursuit of flashy press releases and photo opps.

Good points, Guild.

You must remember that "gun control" has less to do with criminals and the harm they cause and more to do with creating the illusion of "problem solving" by taking firearms out of the hands of those who aren't causing harm in the first place.

A bunch of police officials standing in front of a mountain of guns confiscated (or "bought back") from law-abiding citizens has nothing, NOTHING, to do with fighting crime.

Now I'm off to practice with my 16th century matchlock. smile
