He's actually a good choice for the GOP. Won't piss off the base by appearing weak to the President and trouts the party rhetoric, but avoids more PR nightmares won't say anything too stupid like Bachmann is going to (limited cable audience than the more broad network audience). Everything the Republicans want to hear but will die quickly in the national media conversation.
As per usual the republicans response to anything is to to dismantle legislation and cut taxes ...and by some form of magic the economy will just boom....I think Paul Ryan is just banking on Obama not getting reelected, so he can post up his crazy ass economic road map

From what it's sound like on Twitter, I'm missing out on a great Bachmann fumble.
She railed against the government controlling your lightbulbs. And the IRS enforcing health care. And something about Iwo Jima. Yeah... I don't know either.
Fox didn't show Bachmann huh? The establishment must have been truly worried about another PR nightmare after Palin-Bloodgate. Some people are asking why CNN enabled Bachmann to spread her bullshit, but I say kudos to CNN for enabling Bachmann to embarrass the Republicans. Bachmann's response will get tons of media attention tomorrow and Ryan's official response will get little-to-none.

The real problem was they agreed not to criticize her. Her speech was full of lies and she wasn't looking at camera. It was a train wreck, yet they didn't say a word.

That's the American media in a nutshell.
You're right, in a way. As much as I was hoping for a clever ploy, we're all aware of CNN's dumbed down milquetoast-ness. I had broadcast NBC on during my semi-attentiveness to the SOTU and although they didn't broadcast Bachmann's response, Brian Williams had her on for a quick interview and handled her with kid's gloves, as well. No surprise; the corporate media fears the GOP's liberal media label.
However, the Internet is going to eat her up and broadcasting the Bachman response on television, rather than some Internet stream, will only increase the fuel for the fire.
Right after President Barack Obama finished his State of the Union address, we asked our listeners to describe his speech in three words. We received responses from more than 4,000 of you. We've run them through a word cloud generator and this is what all of you said:
Daily Show does it = funny. Why? Because it is on a COMEDY channel.
Faux News does it != funny. Why? While we laugh at the channel, they aren't meant to be a comedy channel.
