Ahh yes, another principled, holier than thou sort gets caught putting his pee-pee where he ought not.
Another political career in tatters. He can go hang out with senator Ensign.

He's always welcome to go the fuck back to Argentina once he's ousted.

Previously, the website for the Family Research Council’s Values Voters Summit 2009 featured a picture of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, advertising that he was a potential speaker. But Pam Spaulding points out that following Sanford’s announcement of an affair, his picture was quickly removed from the website.

Having briefly met Senator Ensign just after he won his first election, I'm going to call this one an extremely low blow. I found my meeting with former Senator Bob Packwood as an eight-year old to be a less greasy affair.
sort of sad that we can get all upset and titter and someone doing what many others have done (fall in love/fuck someone else) when his real crime was trying to turn down money for public education.

I think your usual moral high ground chiding is misplaced here.
There was plenty of outrage and media coverage of Sanford turning down the stimulus money, long before his affair became news. He decided to grandstand and put himself into the major media spotlight to further his local and national political ambitions, and continued his affair and bizarre behavior knowing full well that he was still on the national radar.
Cheating on your wife with a woman in Argentina while disappearing for days at a time will be of interest to the public, particularly when you are the Governor of South Carolina, a bible-belt Republican and a likely candidate for the presidency in three years.
Having your state office lie to the public and being a total hypocrite doesn't help either.

I'm not taking any moral high ground. That's what "We" (as opposed to "you guys" ) means.

That's all fine, but i think the giggling over his e-mails on the "news" to be a bit distasteful. That's what I'm responding to...not the interest in the story.
If you were upset about the emails, why didn't you say so? That's not what you said.

'cause, really, this is much less about that than about everything else. The two components of this saga are not separable. If the guy had gone about his business as Governor and not made a naked political calculation to raise his political profile by very publicly rejecting the stimulus money, he would not be getting this level of coverage and most people wouldn't care much nationally.
Ditto if he had conducted a discreet affair with a local woman. Still news because of his party, position and hypocrisy but it would hardly nudge the WTF meter otherwise.
I think the wide disclosure of the e-mails is sad and embarrassing, particularly for his family, but this sort of thing goes with the territory. The local paper that got them through an anonymous tip held off on publishing out of concern for accuracy until their reporter caught Sanford getting off a plane in Atlanta, obviously nowhere near the Appalachian Trail.
Which brings us back to Sanford being hoist by his own petard.

I know that when I think 'family values,' I think Gary Sinise.
