www.NationForMarriage.org -- the website for The National Organization for Marriage (NOM), has released a video speaking out against Gay Marriage.

The video appears like a joke, but it's no laughing matter for those refused this basic civil right.

Frank Rich's NYT opinion piece decries this video as Village of the Damned meets a Chorus Line.

Please find it, flag it, tell your friends, and write to your local representatives in support of marriage as a basic civil right.

It's also fun to point out how none of the situations detailed in the commercial have anything to do with marriage itself. Sure, there's the story about the pavilion, but that is an issue of equal access to publically-used resources.

I think the fact that they actually used the term "rainbow coalition" is really ballsy and really low.

That's what's struck me about the recent batch of conservative invective. It is so smarmy. It's like they're saying na-na-na-na-na. Real adult, kids.

If you're going to speak out against same-sex marriage, might I recommend a healthy dose of class?

FTR covered this two weeks ago. These people are obviously douchetastic, but I still giggle at the fact that the Youtube header says NOM.

CNN just ran a story about a high school kid who tried to research LGBT scholarships, but the school's filtering software blocked him. The same software, however, allowed many anti-gay websites to be shown.

Ah that makes sense. I scanned visually and did the topic search but didn't catch that.

Still, Frank RIch's condemnation came today, which was the inspiration for the post.

Dear Frank Rich,

Welcome to last week. Glad you're all caught up with us. Maybe tomorrow you can write a story about the Obamas' new dog.

I just came here to post that! biggrin

I watched the episode when Stephen Colbert aired it. Some funny shit, if you ask me.

As far as the original video is concerned...

-"My freedom will be taken away..."
Umm... what freedom, exactly? Can anyone tell me, please? Which freedom is this idiot talking about? Seriously?

-"I'm a California Doctor who must choose between my faith, and my job."
What the hell does this have to do with marriage of any kind?

-"I'm part of a New Jersey church group punished by the government because we can't support same sex marriage."
Am I the only one who has to laugh at the wording of this statement? Let's break it down, shall we?

Okay, so I get that this guy is part of a New Jersey church group being punished by the government. But why?

"because we can't support same sex marriage."

Look at that again:

"because we can't support same sex marriage."

That's right... they are being punished by the government because they can't support same sex marriage.

So, what I take away from this is that this particular church group wants to support same-sex marriage, but can't... probably because they're being punished by the government.

-"I am a Massachusetts parent helplessly watching public schools teach my son that gay marriage is okay."
Last I checked, it is okay... unless you want to teach your son that polygamy is okay, which is what "traditional marriage" actually is. Otherwise, you're just dumb blond...

-"But some who advocate for same-sex marriage have not been content with same-sex couples living as they wish." "Those advocates want to change the way I live." "I will have no choice."
*shakes head vigorously*
Umm... wait... what?

When? Where? Who? How? Whay?

I need to know, right now! Facts, statements, numbers! Come on, people!

There is an enemy amongst us, folks! Apparently, there are people who want everybody to...

Well I don't know what, exactly... "change the way I live" is, without a doubt, a vague-as-hell statement. How will they change the way I live? What will I have to do differently? I don't get it...

Hang on...

*goes back to watch video"

The enemy is upon us! I won't let them... change the way I live...

How are they gonna change the way I live, again?

Wow, I want my own personal guitar player. That way I could have a funky bwa-chicka-waka theme song playing where ever I go.

Personally, I don't see an issue with same sex marriage, as i am a TRUE Republican and am for small government...How is telling me or anyone else who they can and can't marry small government??? besides that, I think it is just stupid...they aren't hurting anyone.
Nonetheless, here is what more religious conservatives feel or would say.

"I'm a California Doctor who must choose between my faith, and my job."
What the hell does this have to do with marriage of any kind?

She means that if she chooses to not want to help gay couples, she can lose her job for discrimination..rightfully so I say.

I'm part of a New Jersey church group punished by the government because we can't support same sex marriage."

this refers to the fact that many churches do receive some sort of government funding for their charitable organizations. (feeding homeless, etc.) If same sex marriage is passed, the churches that don't support it due to their beliefs on it will lose that government funding.

"I am a Massachusetts parent helplessly watching public schools teach my son that gay marriage is okay."
this is part of an ongoing battle with the whole En Loco Parentis ordeal. Many conservative parents don't feel it is the job of the school system to teach about sex in any form. (which is really just dumb and IMO contributes to teen pregnancy because the parents don't teach it either.)

"But some who advocate for same-sex marriage have not been content with same-sex couples living as they wish." "Those advocates want to change the way I live." "I will have no choice."
I believe this refers to similar situations as with the doctor and the church. Although, I really don't see how, unless this person is in some sort of service that is similar, it will impact their beliefs heavily in any way.
