This is the day we Americans come together to celebrate thanks and stuff. In 1619, English settlers arrived at Berkeley Hundred, a settlement 20 miles north of Jamestown in the Colony of Virginia. When they arrived they celebrated a day of Thanksgiving to God. Three years later, 9 of the 38 settlers were brutally murdered by Indians. Throughout Virginia, nearly 1/3 of all settlers were killed during the Indian Massacre of 1622. The location of Americas first Thanksgiving was abandoned. With that in mind, its time to give thanks!
You know, usually, I'm right with you. But really? The colonists were better armed, living in a fortified city, and had tripled their popultaion in ten years. They had been killing the locals right and left for years, taking farmland, and generally being assholes. They were attacked out of the desperation. The attack killed 347 colonists and returned the colony to it's original boundaries. In response, the Tsenacommacahs were WIPED OUT by the colonists- about 3000 people in a few months, another thousand over the next couple of years.
In other news, I'm just thankful this is not in line to be President.
Ummmm....get a job? Start your own business? Write a book?
I know a woman who sits at her computer most days, because of several strokes, the entire left side of her body is paralyzed. She has Muscular Dystrophy.
Not knowing how much brain damage that she had suffered, I told her that she should write a book. She did. And got it printed.
She made enough money from the book to take her faithful and hard working husband out for Pizza twice.
It wasnt complete success, but at least she made the attempt. AND SHE HAS BRAIN DAMAGE.
Are you disabled? Do you have your normal brain function left?
Be thankful you live in a country you can voice your opinion right wrong or indifferent and not be locked up or worse. Dead for voicing your take on life by the very country you have the privilage to have been born here or are a legal citizen of.
Be thankful that there are those that are willing to serve this country and die for it. So that you can have those freedoms!
Think about the freedoms you have to be thankful for.
