I was impressed with McCain's concession speech. My friends and I were all saying, "If he had run the whole campaign like that speech and was allowed to pick his own running mate, it would have been alot closer." My mom who is very conservative even said to me, "I have to admit, I'm impressed that Obama has hit the ground running like he has." smile

That seems unfair, but I'm not sure to which.

It made me very sympathetic to McCain when I saw the look on his face when his "supporters" started booing during his speech.

It was an extremely gracious speech, and I echo the sentiment that you and your friends felt.

This Article really helped me understand what happened to McCain.

yeah. that article highlights something odd about this election: i expected, way back when McCain was shaping up to be the nominee, to have to make an actual choice between McCain and the democratic candidate. i hadn't always agreed with his politics, but i could respect McCain himself. during the latter part of the primaries and the campaign itself, though, any thought of voting for McCain--any respect for McCain as he was presenting himself--completely evaporated.

This is nothing compared to the crying they'll be doing once their mindless economic policies actually run their course.

And FTR has a legal right to make fun of them whether you like it or not. Legal rights weren't at all the point. This was:

So even in victory you can't be civil!! Grow up! The title to this thread points toward an attitude that is the cause of the political split in this country, 'when I'm right fuck you! and when you're right fuck you!'

Some crazy Republicans are still trying to insist that the nation was tricked into voting for Obama by the evil media. If you're not being one of those "fucking babies", then this really isn't directed at you now is it?

And I hope you were referring to your own posts with the "poor writing and editing" comment, because you're in no position to throw stones.

EDIT: Oh christ, there's more in there. Learn to use the quote function properly if you're going to use it, please.

-Yes I was referring to my poor writing and editing. Sucked at english but kicked ass in physics! Never have replied on here before so I understandably slaughtered my posting. It is nice to see that my Gasbag response did get some responses other than cheering for tears!

You mean the chaotic neutral Gnome Cleric/Illusionist from the Baldur's Gate game?

Oh, no, Bush's first vice.
"Sarah Palin" gives 35 million hits on google, did he come even close to that? (by now he is down at less then 750.000 - but I admit that I don't have an idea how much was there, 8 years ago).

Err, Dan "Potatoe" Quayle was pre-internet. 8 years ago was Cheney, Gore was 8 years before that, so we're talking 20 years. Google hits won't give you a very fair comparison at this point.

The various news media are, as they always have been, opportunistic. They all fawned over McCain until Obama became more interesting. Is it right? No. But it's typical.

It's over, the GOP did some stupid things, and they lost. They can cry all they want, but the only way they'll get anything done is by cooperating with the Majority.

McCain said himself (before the election) that the media was his base. Aside from being palsy with them, he tended to make for interesting stories by going his own way.

If the coverage of Obama's campaign tended to be more positive and the coverage of McCain's tended to be more negative, I'd suspect it had a LOT to do with there simply being more stupid shit said and done on the McCain side.

When the media had the occasional opportunity to put out stories that showed Obama in a bad light, they didn't seem to hesitate to do so. He simply gave them fewer opportunities, and handled his reactions to these stories better than the McCain side.

Witness Barack Obama making an excellent speech on race in America after the Rev. Wright brouhaha. Witness Sarah Palin straying from the script and making statements that put her spending spree back in the news.

The funny thing for me (as someone who supported Obama from day one) was how the people ranting about his lack of executive experience would throw their support behind people like Hillary Clinton or John McCain. Both of whom had some of the most mismanaged campaigns in history. We could fault the people they had under them running their campaigns. They had ample opportunity to crack the whip and get these people running things the right way and work TOGETHER to fight Obama, instead of fighting one another.

Neither of them seemed up to this task. Which made it quite clear that neither of them would be capable of managing a presidential administration.

Work "Together" to fight Obama? People accused Sen. Clinton of doing things that helped John McCain, but I doubt she would do something to warrant being tossed out of her own party. Please clarify?

This election taught me something interesting. There is no way that anyone could ever have "enough" experience to be president. There's too much to study, observe, or participate in to ever say "I am perfect for this job." That's why Presidents appoint smart people to the cabinet to fill up the gaps, and even then they can't know everything.

edited to add: Ah, crap. I just realized that I've read a post in the same vein on the CE board already, and probably in a smarter way.

I'll take a stab and say I think he meant their respective campaigns reflexively. In other words, their campaign staffs would "(run) things the right way and work TOGETHER to fight Obama," as opposed to McCain and Clinton literally working together to fight Obama.

Y'know, as opposed to Clinton just giving the RNP a bunch of awesome sound bites.

The incredibly high level of civil discourse contained within this thread is underwhelming. Even with an Obama win, his most ardent supporters here still cannot post a thread sans rampant profanity. Such class!!!

Are you talking about the OP in isolation? He's known for using profanity in pretty much every news itsem he posts, so that's a "dog bites man" story i.e. nothing new here, move on.

Havng just browsed this page of this thread and found no profanity at all, it seems a bunch of Obama supporters can engage in civil discourse without difficulty.

Perhaps you could learn something.

Instead of expecting him to make sense of your rambling, unnecessarily long post, perhaps you can summarize it for us so we can discuss whatever points you made, rather than your confusing writing structure.
