Sanchez is a tool, I'll agree. But the Fox "News" comparison, um...

CNN at their worst is Fox "News" at their best. And I don't have a high opinion of CNN.

I missed this earlier. Same event, more context: It's always good to see some rational thought win over mindless bigotry.

I really want to know why, after all the months of Muslim-baiting, there are still Muslims who support the McCain campaign.

Maybe the same reason there are gay repubs & black repubs . Not saying I understand it either , just saying that they do in fact exist .

I wonder why so many Jews support Obama. Not that the Obama campaign "baits" Jews, but with Obama's horrible friends and likely policy on Israel, it just seems like self-defeating.

You really don't ever know what the hell you're talking about, do you?

Obama/Biden Israel policy statements

"Our alliance is based on shared interests and shared values. Those who threaten Israel threaten us. Israel has always faced these threats on the front lines. And I will bring to the White House an unshakeable
commitment to Israel's security...I will ensure that Israel can defend itself from any threat - from Gaza to Tehran.... Across the political spectrum, Israelis understand that real security can only come through lasting peace. And that is why we - as friends of Israel - must resolve to do all we can to help Israel and its neighbors to achieve it."

Yeah - like he's going to say anything else to AIPAC...

Well that's the flop - here's the matching "Iran is a tiny threat" flip:

"I mean, think about it. Iran, Cuba, Venezuela -- these countries are tiny, compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us. And yet, we were willing to talk to the Soviet Union at the time when they were saying, 'We're going to wipe you off the planet.' And ultimately, that direct engagement led to a series of measures that helped prevent nuclear war, and over time, allowed the kind of opening that brought down the Berlin Wall," Obama continued. "Now, that has to be the kind of approach that we take. You know, Iran, they spend one-one hundredth of what we spend on the military. If Iran ever tried to pose a serious threat to us, they wouldn't stand a chance. And we should use that position of strength that we have, to be bold enough to go ahead and listen. That doesn't mean we agree with them on everything. We might not compromise on any issues, but at least we should find out other areas of potential common interest, and we can reduce some of the tensions that has caused us so many problems around the world."

And where in that quote did he say anything about Israel?

He said Iran is, relatively speaking, a tiny threat to the United States.

Again, what the fuck does that have to do with Obama's policies toward Israel?

And since you apparently didn't read the link, just the quote, here's a hint:

Support Israel%u2019s Right to Self Defense: During the July 2006 Lebanon war, Barack Obama and Joe Biden stood up strongly for Israel%u2019s right to defend itself from Hezbollah raids and rocket attacks. Obama is an original cosponsor of the Senate resolution expressing support for Israel, condemning the attacks, and calling for strong action against Iran and Syria. Throughout the war, Barack Obama made clear that Israel should not be pressured into a ceasefire that did not deal with the threat of Hezbollah mssiles. Senator Obama remains concerned about the rapid re-arming of Hezbollah in Lebanon since the ceasefire. In addition, Obama signed a letter to the European Union pressing the EU to designate Hezbollah as a terrorist organization. Long before the July 2006 conflict, Barack Obama worked to limit Hezbollah%u2019s influence in the region, signing a letter urging President Bush to place al-Manar, the official television station of Hezbollah, on the Treasury Department%u2019s Specially Designated Global Terrorist Entity list and to aggressively target organizations that aid in its broadcast.

UpTight, the way you choose understand things is a source of continual amusement.

Anyway, you're off topic. What have you got to say about the issue for discussion in this thread? I'm genuinely interested.

I was trying to find a way to ask him that in a way that he can't twist, but I gave up. You should know by now that if debate is a game of chess, he's playing checkers.

No, you're right. And while this hasn't quite turned into a derailment, it's dangerously close. And I'm not really interested in aggravating lil_tuffy.

those two statements aren't even the least bit conflicting. the first says what we need to do--protect Israel. the second delineates one of the measures we should use to achieve that--talk to Iran.
