I have a question about your voter registration. I know it varies from state to state but maybe someone can give me a general idea.

If you aren't properly registered, how fucked are you on election day? I know here in Canada if you can prove your identity and address you can register at the polls. It takes five minutes and you can vote, no problems. Can you do that in America or are you just turned away?

At best you probably get a provisional ballot. The fact that there is no allowance made for registering on the day of voting (or at least up until the day before) is just one more of those facets of American voting that makes me scratch my head and say "why don't they make it easier instead of harder? We're all supposed to do this."
