Christ. I must be a closet American and not know it. Or is it just Albertans that get that kinda treatment?

No, they just always treat the retarded kid special.

Small quibble: the 13-year old "terrorist," Saleh Choudhary, is of Pakistani descent, and not an Arab.

That aside, InnocentSid seems to have more or less put his finger on this week's theme.

ooo, Persians get real pissed when called Arabs, irregardless of being called a terrorist.

Are Pakistanis Persian?

A few are, but most aren't.

Also, "Choudhary" is an Indo-Aryan name, and not Persian.

You missed one, Reaper- how about the mailings that went to thousands of Democrats in Florida that made them think that they were registered as Republicans?
Something fishy in Florida? just can't be happening... (accidental double pun there)
I am really tired of racial stereotypes- and that classroom is yet another example...this really needs to end....and for a teacher to do that is just reprehensible...
I am sure the Obama slamming is just starting...
I am already sick of people who tell me they are not voting for him because he is "shudder"....."whisper"....black...I hope that this is just because I spend too much time with people who's family tree doesn't branch....

There are some Persians (called Farsi, or Parsi) in Pakistan, Afganistan, and India. They are decended from Zoroastrians who fled Persia (now Iran) when Islam conquered it. While Zoroastrians are tolerated now in Iran, they are still a minority.

In Canada all you need to do is show up at the polling place with your Social Insurance Card and a hydro bill.

Hell, you can show up with someone who's on the voting list and have them vouch for you. We are so damn trusting.

That's what the Minnesota practice Sick mentioned is. The first time I voted, my dad just brought me and signed for me. As I recall, I didn't bring anything as far as an ID goes.

Yep. We can also bring a current utility bill and whatnot. I tell people that, essentially, the only reason they won't let you vote in MN is if you don't bother to show up at a polling place. Hell, it doesn't even have to be the correct polling place. If you go to the wrong one, they'll give you a provisional ballot.

Almost. We still can't vote if we're drunk or felons, though.

You can't vote drunk? How do they know? I'll have to try during a less important election (though I am a CA voter, I'm not too worried about us going red).

Well that's nonsense. Considering some of the names on the ballot in this country sometimes you need a little liquid courage just to go into the booth.

The 13-year old terrorist's professor reminded me of how I fear for the education of children in your country. I remember seeing in the news a kindergarden teacher who left her job and drove a thousand miles to go encourage Michael Jackson in his last trial. Looks like Peggy Hill isn't a caricature after all.

Don't forget that while the contest for our electoral votes is practically a foregone conclusion, there are ballot measures and congressional races that are both close and important. smile

I guarantee that almost all that are not voting for Obama due to race, voted for Bush twice.. So, we already know they are retarded and are incapable of rational thought.. I really believe that if you voted for Bush twice, or even once if it was 04, then you have proven that you're irresponsible and you should loose your right to vote this time... Like a sanity penalty box... It drives me insane that people who are so tragically ill informed and are so incapable of learning, even to help themselves, should have the right to Vote without now proving they they have some logic behind their choice.. I've been so embarrassed to be an American for the past 8 years and now, the fact that it's even close makes me unbelievably frustrated..
