Seriously though, until the drastic turnaround shown in the Zogby poll is reflected elsewhere, I'm not going to lend these results any credence.

Honestly. This kind of shit worries me. How can it even be close ?

This election should be a no brainer of epic proportions. A blow out.
I find it a little discouraging, not to mention embarrassing, that even close to half of my country leans that way. STILL.

I don't know why not. Have you ever seen a London phonebooth? You can't even see though the glass because of all the hooker-cards.

Never been to London. I've been to San Francisco though and it was lovely.

And no, there were no leather clad gay men.

That Zogby might just be an outlier, but the overall race has definitely tightened in the past month or so. McCain now has a lead in Colorado in multiple polls. McCain seems to have taken back control of Florida, after a few polls in June and July had Obama leading. McCain now has a comfortable lead in Missouri too. I've said it before, I think this year's electoral map is going to look almost (if not completely) identical to the one in 2004.

I agree. There will be some significant differences, and there is a chance that several states (Alaska, Montana, and Florida, in particular) might surprise us. But right now it's very close. I think the polling composite has Obama maintaining a 1-2 point lead, but that's virtually meaningless at this stage of the game, before the conventions, debates, and fall campaigning.

you sure you were in the right town? because they roam the streets in packs, attacking the unarmed and unprepared, turning them into queermosexuals.

And when they get their gay on, it's like a total Altered Beast situation. It's all hairy and leathery and man-on-doggy-y. At least that's what Rick Santorum told me. Not sure if that's based on experience or not.

In an amusing sidenote to this thread, check out the winning evening Pick Three numbers for the Illinois lottery for 11/5 - Obama's first day as President-elect: yep, 666.
How long before people call it a sign from heaven?

I loved the look on the other customers faces when I said I took that as a good omen for the day. smile

Of course he's not the anti-christ.

The prophet Daniel prophecied that "the people of the prince who is to come" would destroy Jerusalem and the temple.

That was Rome - which later fell apart into what is now Europe, which is re-uniting again as the EU.

Just so there's no confusing - no, I'm not claiming to "know" that - that's just a fairly common conservative interpretation I've heard. Another is that it will be a pope, but the rationale for that seems to be even sketchier.

I don't know about him being the anti-christ, but I do know someone who says she can "prove" Obama is a communist because Edgar Cayce said America would elect a communist president in 2008.

There are certain things that are tacky, gross or grotesque if done in public - taking a crap, discussing ones salary and having sex.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with all three activities, as such - just as there's nothing wrong with Gay sex - but why does anyone need a parade to celebrate a private aspect of their lives?

Sophisticated people frown on obvious displays of wealth, but imagine "Millionaires Pride" parade, where all the city's superannuated stock brokers sat on floats, wearing their Patek Philippe watches and Brookes Brothers suits, while their Ivy League buddies engaged in public burning of $100 notes.

Ok, so I just described a weekend at Bohemian Grove, but it doesn't make it right!

Comparing gays to millionaires is ridiculous. If anything, the results of Prop 2 in Florida, Prop 8 in California, Prop 102 in Arizona, and Initiative Act 1 in Arkansas prove that gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgendered people are actively oppressed. So yes, we do need one day out of the year to celebrate and try to forget that an apparent majority of Americans hate us.

I've never been to a gay pride parade in San Francisco, but I have been to parades in Minneapolis and Miami. Both have been extremely family friendly. When I was in town for the parade in Minneapolis, several congregations (at least a dozen, if memory serves) marched in the parade, as did politicians running for office (including Al Franken). I was surrounded on the streets by parents with their babies and young kids, and everyone was dancing and having a great time. So, you know, loosen up and stop being so fucking uptight, Mr. Aptly Named.

i would guess MOST people wouldn't take their kids to a pride parade in san francisco. it's pretty much a full day of complete insanity. It's amazing and tons of fun, but unless the parents are totally comfortable with full frontal for their kids, i'm guessing they wouldn't bring em to the sf parade. (but for anyone interested....a parade starting out with the "dykes on bikes" followed shortly by "mikes on trikes" not to mention all of the elaborate costumes and floats (drag queens (and kings) bdsm, pflag, you name it, it aaaallllllll in the sf pride parade. i've heard people complain that it's not well organized, but, regardless, the one year i went while living there, it was incredible smile
i didn't see too many kids there though.....
