Well I am not sure about your assertion Bean. Did you quote the sum total of what McCain's said about the Iraq situation over the last five years? Obviously not, you've for the sake of brevity excluded most all of it. But you have posted enough to support an allegation that McCain's full of crap.

I bet if you gave me some time I could dredge up beaucoup McCain statements that would prove the general assertion. Simply posting stuff that doesn't support his assertions doesn't preclude the possibilty those statements exist and are on record.

Well hey, this is true. Nice work, stock. Also, please do dredge up those statements. I'm more than happy to judge him on the breadth of his record, not just his sound-bytes.

Of course, if you demand that be the standard that McCain is judged upon, you must also agree to the same with Obama. And you must be consistent with that belief. Otherwise, it's the Battle of the Soundbytes! Woo hoo!

There's no way to finesse McCain's previous whole-hearted support for this war and his bold statements of having have rebuked this administration early on on the execution of the war. And there's no reconciling his non-recognition of the role of paying off militias in the lessening of violence with his puffed-up touting of "The Surge"

I'd be interested to know which "general assertion" that would be?

Both of your major candidates are fucking frauds and liars. Congratulations on singling out the more transparent of the two. Really good work there gumshoe.

McCain wants continued and stepped up war fronts in Iraq so it can hopefully spill over into Iran "where the real bad guys are at." Obama wants continued and stepped up war fronts in Afghanistan so it can hopefully spill over into Pakistan "where the real bad guys are at." He wants more troops, more military funding, more helicopters, more divisions, etc... in the central Asian theatre - whereas his washed up, doddering, punching bag, fall guy, backup plan, foil to the majestic and pageanted savior, would prefer it in the near Eastern theatre.

Now, enjoy your fake debate about the nuances in whose version of war continuance and expansion is more suitable to your value system. In the meantime, the military-media-banking-industrial complex is betting on you making the correct decision, whichever it may be. wink

SPOILERS! (Click to view)

Oh, wow, look they win either way. Kind of like when you sent Pelosi and the Dems to blank check fund and sign off on everything "block Bush."

I truly think that this scripted Kabuki theatre, WWF main event feature is almost as entertaining when they ran the two cousins and Skull and Bones Yale frat boys against each other four years ago.

I am so over this fucking bullshit at this point I don't know why I even comment on these boards anymore. Christ ooo aaa

After the wonderful pass job McCain got from CBS I think his claims of getting shafted by the media are pretty null and void.

It'd be interesting if Obama got the same kind of leeway that McCain does. Although it'd be appalling.

Thank you for your insightful commentary, genius, but that dog won't hunt. Refer to A) and C) below:

A) Politicians lie and in general, shouldn't be trusted
B) John McCain is a politician
AB) John McCain lies

I get the fact that part of the image of politicians being sleazy is by design, but there has been plenty of anecdotal evidence that politicians are self interested and will do whatever they need to do to stay on the gravy train, including lying. I am a complete cynic when it comes to politics. I don't trust any of them.

Secondly, McCain hasn't been a straight talker for a very long time. A few election cycles ago, McCain was true maverick, but then he fell in line with the party. McCain is, IMO, irrelevant now.

That much is obvious. I don't see how being skeptical about the statements of politicians should suggest that we should ignore or refuse to publicize when a politician is caught not just distorting the truth, but completely fabricating an entire narrative from whole cloth.

Secondly, McCain hasn't been a straight talker for a very long time. A few election cycles ago, McCain was true maverick, but then he fell in line with the party. McCain is, IMO, irrelevant now.

As long as he is still portrayed as a "straight-talking maverick" by the media, and as long as that reputation persists in the minds of the public, it's worthwhile to point out the things that blatantly contradict that image, regardless of how obvious or predictable they are to well-informed people. It's nice that you think he's irrelevant, but he's a candidate for the Presidency of the United States, and almost half of the people in the country currently support him. Thinking he's irrelevant doesn't change that.

Have you been to Minneapolis or St Paul? I have, and while St. Paul is the capital, Minneapolis is the metropolis and the center of business and economy.

The main campus for the university is in - Minneapolis
Travelers, Metlife, and 3M are headquartered in St Paul
Target, Pepsi, General Mills, Deluxe, and a host of other F1000 companies list their HQ as Minneapolis. No one ever says, "We are from St. Paul," unless speaking to a fellow Minnesotan.

Then I am confused becuase we just booked 3 rooms in Minneapolis for the 4th and 5th. The catch was simple - there are no "discount" rooms available through Hotels.com, Orbitz, or similar booking aggregator. My admin was told that the hotels, in anticipation of the event, took back room availability and price in an effort to maximize revenue based on booking trends. She booked us 3 rooms at the Graves 601, which is supposed to be quite nice.

My friend owns the Dakota Jazz Bar and Restaurant in Minneapolis and he volunteered that the hotels were complaining about lower than expected bookings, etc. Maybe it's different in St. Paul.

Most of that's true (though I'd never identify myself as from Minneapolis - I'm not)...and the convention is still in Saint Paul. Believe me, I wish it were going to be in Minneapolis. As it is it'll probably do annoying things to my getting to work on time.

Very true. There are hotels here that as of this moment aren't even done being built yet that are already fully booked. And any rooms (and I'm not even talking hotel rooms but people who are renting out their houses or apartments) that are available are starting at at least $750/night. It's a madhouse here right now.
