I, for one, don't have a problem with it, as long as it, like any other thread in here, isn't so vague that only people who already know about the story in question understand the post.

Fair enough, I'll try to keep my insane futbol ramblings to a minimum, because I don't feel like providing background for each and every post I may make after watching soccer and imbibing too much brew.

I would like, however, to posit a philosophical CE question: to what extent is background necessary? If I want to post on Estonian politics do I need to provide a history of Estonian political parties first? It's a question of perspective and education. Is the answer that we're working with a primarily American audience here? What do we use to measure how much we may have to educate/provide background for? Or perhaps we can just leave it to those who know/care can respond and those that don't can just move on to something else that they feel is more important.

Dude. Just link to a fucking story. It's not that hard.

This is generally not appreciated. Could be trolling, could just be annoying. Announce, explain in brief, and link.

I could give a fuck about all sports except soccer, but anyway, wining tournaments/cups/series/la la la always makes the major news.

The CE boards are so damn irritable!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone who is so irritable and tired of what is here has to go find the CE in the world that matters most to them. Then write no more than a three paragraph summary of what and why, and provide a link.

Hey everyone-

I posted this in the LBGQT group, but want to know what people here think too. ANd where do our brains fall??? confused

Swedish Brain researchers say:

Study shows brain similarities among homosexuals, opposite sex

Swedish scientists have found that some physical attributes of the homosexual brain resemble those found in the opposite sex.

Ivanka Savic and Per Lindstrom of the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm report that the brains of heterosexual men and homosexual women are slightly asymmetric -- the right hemisphere is larger than the left -- and that the brains of gay men and straight women are not.

Positron emission tomography (PET) scans taken by the researchers also showed that in connectivity of the amygdala, which is important for emotional learning, lesbians resemble straight men, and gay men resemble straight women.

Very cool. And the Scandanavians don't profit much as researchers so they tend not to fabricate their research.

As a reasonable person, I always have hope that biological support of our differences can increase tolerance, rights, understanding... smile

Of course, why would the same insane creationists who can't listen to evolution understand the impact of brain reseach...? whatever

Anything you can do smoking or drinking isn't a sport . It's a past time . I don't like golf , but I do enjoy bowling . And I don't consider either one a sport . Or driving a car in circles . Then again , I guess it's better then reading yet another story about how our government is trying to fuck us over or such .

What about poker? They have been playing a lot of that on ESPN lately.

It was amazing golf and (believe it or not) compelling TV.
I watched the whole damn thing ... from ESPN to NBC and back.

PS - As much as I'd love a sports board on here, I believe the vast majority would not. We sports geeks should be happily relegated to our groups.

Spooky. Same here (but longer than nine for me).

I tuned in early Sunday just to catch a score and ended up watching until the end of play that day, then followed the playoff today online. And I don't even like golf.

I'm not sure there's a need for a sports section, though there is one person on SG who could probably give us a nice recap of the East Coast Extravaganza.

First-ever face-off between WFTDA's #4 Texas Rollergirls and #5 Gotham Girls Roller Derby. And I'm having a hunch that up-and-comer #20 Dominion Derby Girls could maybe pull off a surprise upset of #8 Detroit. And then there's #3 Carolina versus #7 Windy City. I want Carolina, my gut tells me Windy City may pull it off. Carolina's a team that CAN beat anyone on any given day. Once they've already skated a bout or three, they usually can't get it done.

I mean, Beyonslay blocking Rice Rocket. Cheapskate (ex-TXRD) against her old TXRG rivals. These are two leagues that both seemed destined for last year's Nationals finals, and neither quite made it.

But if that's all-too-East-Coast for you, out in Seattlet #10 B.ay A.rea D.erby Girls are taking on #2 Rat City Rollergirls. A few weeks back Bay Area blew out #6 Tucson. If they even come close to Rat City they could consider it a win as far as moving up in the rankings. Not so different a playstyle, too.

Look at it this way. Tiger Woods with a bum knee playing against a Mediate with no power in his swing and a terrible short game. In the final of the first four rounds they were neck and neck with Englishman Westwood until the final hole.

18 holes of Playoff and they fucking TIE! IN THE SUMMER SUN. Bum knee bugging him, Tiger does NOT birdie the Sudden Death hole. However, Rocco Mediate's terrible short-game curses him! Tiger wins. Amazing match.

Won and done.

Tiger Woods has decided to have surgery on his left knee, which will end his 2008 season.

Woods said on his Web site that he will have surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament. He also wrote that he needs time to rehabilitate a double stress fracture of his left tibia, which he said was discovered just before the Memorial Tournament in late May.

And he revealed that he originally ruptured the ACL in 2007 while running at his home in Orlando after the British Open. He said he decided not to have surgery at that point, and he went on to win five of the next six events he entered (through his Target World Challenge in December).

Woods said no date has been determined for the surgery.

"I know much was made of my knee throughout the last week, and it was important to me that I disclose my condition publicly at an appropriate time. I wanted to be very respectful of the USGA and their incredibly hard work, and make sure the focus was on the U.S. Open," Woods said on his Web site. "Now, it is clear that the right thing to do is to listen to my doctors, follow through with this surgery, and focus my attention on rehabilitating my knee."

Woods was last seen at Torrey Pines with the U.S. Open championship trophy in hand. He played 91 holes last week, finally beating Rocco Mediate in a playoff to win his 14th major, four behind Jack Nicklaus' record of 18.

A warm feeling? A good end?

You did catch the part where he's done for the season and probably out of the Ryder Cup, right?

It's his decision, and we should respect that. If he doesn't want to compete, then why should we feel disappointed?

Go tiger. What an awesome game. Kudos to Rocco Mediate, too. His game was unorthodox, above, and beyond a lot of long games I have seen in the past.

Looks like a hemorrhoid sufferer from that photo .

Post-op knee surgery, actually.

WHY is he playing on that knee? Why can't he take a year off and let it heal?

I would think with his career standing on that knee, he would let it heal properly.
