I'm not going to vote for Obama, but whatever.
McCain knows nothing about economics, I was actually quite aware of this.
Blaming the current economy on "conservatives"- well, whatever, I primarily blame the Federal Reserve and the Oil Companies.
So we're pretending the Federal Reserve has nothing to do with the administration that appointed it's Chairman? And the fact that oil has it's price set in US currency which isn't worth dog piss at the moment has nothing to do with it's current price in the world market.
To be fair, the man who is, more than any other single man, responsible for the recent/current credit crisis was appointed by Ronald Reagan. He also happened to have presided over the economic boom of the 90s.
Yes, I agree.
I don't know where anyone got the impression I was a fan of Bush or Reagan.
Although really, It's not even Greenspan's fault. One man, or a board of men, aren't smart enough to regulate the financial system from the top down.

I do have a problem with the ignorant part though, other than the Bay of Pigs incident and the Cuban Missile Crisis, Kennedy didn't get much accomplished in the two years before he died.
Considering he was only in office for two years, he actually got a remarkable amount of things accomplished.
He created the Peace Corps.
He successfully defused the situation with the Russians in Cuba (following the Cuban Missile Crisis).
He signed, and got the UK and Soviet Union to sign the Nuclear Test Ban treaty.
He launched a drive for programs for funding education, elderly medical care, and the end of racial discrimination amongst other things, many of which were passed by the Johnson Administration.
He proposed the policy that would become, thanks to Ted Kennedy, the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.
He led the push for the exploration of space (which, itself, led to a vast number of technological innovations).
He also created programs for developmentally delayed individuals to get support and training to maximize their potential, from kindergarten through adulthood, instead of just warehousing people.
He also passed legislation providing confidentiality in the mental health/addictions/psychiatry/psychology (not HIPPA if you know what that means, but the first confidentiality.)
Thanks guys, that about summed up my argument for AaronB's ignorance. I think "tasteless" stands on its own merits.

Christ on a cracker, I'm not saying he was a shitty president, just in the grand scheme of things, the Democratic Messiah (which is what started my abortion of a reply) would unequivocally be FDR. My point was that Kennedy's popularity, and his place in history were elevated greatly by his untimely death in Texas.
Judging by your profile gdarklighter, we have a lot more in common then we disagree about, if my post in this thread has left you to believe that I'm an idiot message board troll, then that would be a shame. I should know that some of the curt hyperbolic statements I would make in conversation with my friends don't translate well, and I apologize if I've offended you. Also my response to your reaction was pretty juvenile in hindsight, I should have just explained myself last night.

That's definitely true.

That's also true.
Guys, lay off of AaronB. I know him, and he's neither ignorant nor tasteless.

I never said it was entirely Greenspan's fault. But he started the chain reaction, when he said that the Fed wasn't going to be increasing the interest rates on bonds anytime in the near future, which made safer investments unpalatable to international markets, pushing them toward purchasing mortgage-backed securities, and it was downhill from there.
