Supposedly he bedded both Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield, so, I guess he is. They were both pretty much frauds.

The Catholic Church has been shedding members in the U.S. for decades. Both to atheism/agnosticism and to other denominations of Christianity. Additionally, once upon a time we* bred about as fast as Mormons, nowadays the church's bans on birth control tend to be sidestepped.

Of the eight kids on my family, I believe one is at least nominally Catholic. Even the ones who were married in the church (and thereby got their spouses to convert) tended to either drop out, go born-again, or joined their hubby's protestant denom. Two of us are atheists, another isn't practicing much of anything, I'd suspect he's now "one of us." His wife seems too smart to be a believer.

* I came to my senses at the age of about eight.

That's what I remember too. Granted, I was a lot younger when I was going to church and catechism on a weekly basis, so maybe I don't remember all of the craziness, but I think at one point we were relatively "normal"...maybe?

I am noticing that every single person I run into who is like "yeah...I used to practice, but I am an atheist/agnostic now" used to be Catholic. Maybe I just don't know many people from other religions, but it makes me wonder if the Catholic church has gone coo-coo bananas and is forcing out their members.

I kind of wish some of these nutjob organizations would realize that the large majority of grown people do not need or want them to be our moral compasses. All they do is annoy the piss out of me when I see yet another group of intolerant assholes running around and dipping their fingers into the way my government is run.

But you obviously don't know what you're saying! If you don't believe in Our Lord Jesus Christ, you can't be your own moral compass! You're just a Godless heathen atheist if you try!

They both used their will to make of their lives what they wanted them to be. They certainly didn't have "magickal" powers, but they sure as hell were about the furthest thing from "frauds" that I could think of. They wanted to party with hot chicks, fuck, and get high. They did that.

Google "West Memphis 3" and you can experience the fear all over again! As hilarious as that site is, it unfortunately reflects a real phenomenon that exists in America.

Thanks for the article, though, CCV should be exposed for the bullshit nanny organization that it is. Ram-rodding morality law through local channels is detestable.

DevilsReject went through 12 years of Catholic School and no longer believes in religion or God, but is highly amused by Raptor-Jesus

I got one extra we had kindergarten. Can you believe 4 years perfect attendance in high school? 13 years of that have turned me into a born again atheist. Looking now from outside in, it's unbelievable how hypocritical these people are.

I got kicked out of my catholic high school junior year. pre-school through sophomore year were at a catholic school, junior and senior were at a public school.

I was a total goody two-shoes. Altar boy, choir, minister. They had me hook line and sinker. Till I left home for college and was actually able to think for myself for the first time.

My parents are super Christian but they're the bizarre kind of Christian that nobody hears of anymore: the tolerant kind. Growing up they were sort of like, "Hey OSO, here's the Bible. We like it. We hope you like it too. But if you don't, that's cool. But we like it."[spoiler]

My folks are the same. Me, the wife and kids are actually going on vacation with them next week (first one in 4 years!!! YEAH!!)

They know I'm and atheist, and that's how I'm raising my children. They don't have any problem with it. Actually, I think I'm winning them over. They are going to be retiring and moving away from all their friends and their church, so we'll see how that plays out then.

Even when I was a believer going to Catholic church, it was never like the religious insanity that you see today. We believed in (and were taught in Catholic school) evolution, scientific method, the true age of the universe. I really don't understand this fundamentalism and the reversal of progress it is bringing with it.

My parents belong to the Church of Christ. It's Protestant and non-denominational. Very strict but love and kindness are strongly emphasized. They talk a lot about how being a Christian is to be a living example of God's love. I think that's why they aren't douches. I've talked to them about some of these crazy Christians and my dad (who is a part-time minister) gets really angry about how the make Jesus and Christians look bad.

...except LaVey was exceptionally musically talented. Among other things (about as many instruments known as Prince) he was, at the time of his death, the only licensed Theremin player in America.

Crowley, I have no idea about. I don't know what kind of chamber music matches poopin' on the rug.

Meanwhile, I shall try (guiltily) to get back to the point of this thread:

The pseudo-respectable press. The Daily Mail, the Express, the Evening Standard, the Daily Telegraph. They systematically spin all news in the same direction, and lieobfuscate about it when their influence is commented on.
