The so-called "partial birth abortion" doesn't really exist. The procedure is Dilation and Extraction, or a D & X. Doctors won't perform D & X if someone decides they no longer want to be pregant after twenty-four weeks.

Who on earth really thinks that women are such horrible monsters? Why do fundamentalists make it sound like any woman can walk into a clinic and have her child stabbed in the head?

D & X's are performed under the following circumstances in the third trimester:

1. The fetus is dead.
2. The fetus is alive, but continued pregnancy would place the woman's life in severe danger.
3. The fetus is alive, but continued pregnancy would grievously damage the woman's health and/or disable her.
4. The fetus is so malformed that it can never gain consciousness and will die shortly after birth.

It's just getting the foot in the door so they can overturn Roe vs Wade.

*ding ding ding* to all of that.

*sigh* Some people just don't GET it. frown

(I'm referring to the politicians, not you).

BC's not too bad.

Although, we did just have forest fires all summer and rain storms last week, both of which brought the word "biblical" to mind. wink

In my fundamentalist upbringing, we were quoted statistics about percentages of women who had had abortions all the time, so that 11-year-old-I used to count women passing on the sidewalk and wonder "Is that one?"

Sick shit.

My favourite quote from the article:

'The funny thing is, I actually have the pro-life movement to thank for this opportunity. If my HMO wouldn't have bowed to their pressure not to cover oral contraceptives, I never would've gotten pregnant in the first place.'

Hells yeah. biggrin

HMOs won't cover the Pill for medical reasons, either (like poly-cystoidal ovarian syndrome, endometriosis, etc), but they'll cover Viagra. Apparently, it's more important that Grandpa can get his dick up than it is for me to prevent cancerous cysts. mad

The kudos admittedly goes to someone else. I lifted that post from another board as I was too lazy to type it out in my own words. :shame: Disingenuous plagiarism is bad, kids. Don't do as I did. I'm such a prick. But it still says everything I wanted to say.

I don't mean to sound like a staunch pro-lifer here (I'm not), but don't you think partial birth abortions are a bit too brutal?

No.
