Ok First of all the many good ideas the democratic party has increased taxes are not. We pay enough. If this was a business this country would be bankrupt do to the mismanagement of funds already being recieved. Anyone that has any schooling in economics can tell you this. High school level classes. Pooring more money into a broken tub will not stop the water from leaking out. you need to fix the tub. This is the same with the sending of our tax dollar. We need to fix the leak before we just add more money from us to it. And it can be done not by cutting programs but revamping them to remove waste and redundency. You all would be amazed on how much money would be saved. Next that was not so much as a debate as a fluff peice modorated by a former employee of the Clinton's.

Clinton cut capital gains taxes from 28% to 20%. He signed welfare reform, forcing people off the dead-end treadmill of public dependence, I liked that.

And his admin reduced the deficit even though that is historically a right-sided move, because it was the right thing to do for the economy.

Mankarlen, I assume you are referring to universal health coverage when you speak of raising taxes.

Because Bush was ruled as president by SCOTUS after that money went to the wealthy, though I got a few hundred dollars to pay some debts, I admit. The next month everything went back to being the same struggle for me though. If Gore had been ruled as president maybe we could have improved health care then without raising taxes much, but maybe that wasn't on the table.

Now that it's on the table I think it probably means that we have to pay taxes or a mandatory fund or mandatory health insurance premium. However I'm not sure that there is hope for us to put an end to the masses of medical bankruptcies. I just watched the Frontline show on the health care systems in other countries, and I am quite sure that most of the countries are major producers of insurance services, medical equipment, and drugs to the US. So for Japan to have price restrictions, such as $89 MRI's, Toshiba can still sell the same MRI machine that they sell cheap in Japan because of forced low prices, for super expensive here in the USA. Same with drugs companies in Switzerland and swiss insurers.

I seriously would consider believing that the US market is subsidizing the health coverage of the top health care countries. In other words in terms of health care we ARE that third world countries that subsidizes the wealth of the rich 1st world. I mean, that is, except for the wealthy Americans. They have economic parity with health costs.

Not necessarily - after all, last I heard, the US was called the land of the free, and I've been hearing some distressing rumours on that front...

Bush has taken our country hostage. What was once the Land of the Free is currently the Land of Fear, or Terror, depending upon how you want to look at it.

yes, because getting $1500 once a year for letting the oil companies make bazillions off of the land they rent from the state is totally enough to live off of in a state where almost everything has to be shipped to by boat or plane.

totally.

Honestly, seeing the way Clinton is working this campaign disgusts me. The further we get into it, the more I feel extremely uncomfortable in the idea of voting for her. I'm disappointed.
