I think Clinton won the debate, easily.

But it was a disaster, overall.

Besides that it took up over half the screen , continuously, when it could have just been a little ticker or intermittent bugging the hell out of me, . . .

I personally found it a little interesting but I have to wonder how a vast group of people who would find watching the candidates debate such shallow irrelevant nonsense "fascinating and informative" might be influenced by watching a play by play of what the group is thinking.
And I shiver at the thought of how easy it would be for such a thing to be manipulated.

Disclaimer:
And I'm going out on a limb a bit with "shallow irrelevant nonsense". I did only catch the last two questions, so thats largely based on what I read of all your opinions.
I think the question would still stand even if the debate subjects were more pertinent and the audience were all brilliant, educated, independent thinkers.

they talked extensively about the housing crisis and the economy. Or was I watching a different debate?

Right before the questions about gun control and gas

The stream went out briefly. But talking about Capital Gains taxes and other tax cuts is not discussing the economy. It is talking about tax cuts. Very different. They did not talk extensively about the housing crisis from what I am reading.

these "controversies" everybody keeps referring to are lame.

how the fuck can we call this piddly shit "controversy" when we've got things going on for the past few years that should land people a date at the Hague?

I watched some of it at work, but I had to change the channel when that old lady with the flag boner video-question was played.

No more asinine debates on corporate media networks plz.

For the record, guys: It's completely fucking impossible to move an entire brigade out of theater in a single month and they are both fucking retarded for saying that they'll do so.

No, she didn't.

John McCain won the debate. Because the writers at ABC wrote it that way.

That "debate" was an atrocity, a crime against humanity. Everyone involved in the production of that garbage should resign, then go home and find a sword to fall on.

I don't care who won or lost, when you have a debate with no questions about policy for a solid hour, that's an atrocity. There was no difference between that and a celebrity cage fight reality show.

Via Walter Shapiro of Salon.com:

This is the way it ends, not with a bang but a whimper. If Wednesday night's fizzle in Philly was indeed the last debate of the Democratic primary season between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, it will be remembered for, well, not much of anything.

Broadcast to a prime-time network audience on ABC and devoid of a single policy question during its opening 50 minutes, the debate easily could have convinced the uninitiated that American politics has all the substance of a Beavis and Butt-Head marathon.

Indeed.

ABC was so bad, they made cable news look competent;

The fact is, cable networks CNN and MSNBC both did better jobs with earlier candidate debates [than ABC]. Also, neither of those cable networks, if memory serves, rushed to a commercial break just five minutes into the proceedings, after giving each candidate a tiny, token moment to make an opening statement. Cable news is indeed taking over from network news, and merely by being competent.
