I think there's probably a few more serious and rigorous sources of data for trends in teen violence over a reasonable length of time. Fearful cries of teens out of control go back to at least the 1950s in the modern popular imagination.

Cain was the first out of control teen. Or maybe it was Eve, even.

Isn't this sort of like happy slapping in Britian? Were kids were beating up random strangers and taping it on the mobile phones? We had a sexual assault by numerous teens on a mental handicapped girl over in Australia recorde and sold and someones school.

It isn't new what these girls di but it is still utterly deplorable. While this thread has turned into some debate about sensationalistic journalism, the act committed by these girls doesn't deserve to be pushed aside. Pre meditated assault for revenge or youtube or otherwise is still a serious crime and people should still be outraged at what occured. Why shouldn't people get upset at what is senseless violence?
