I have one advantage over Gargamel . . . when I catch a Smurf, I won't tie them with easily slipped knots and leave them under the watchful eye of an idiotic cat. I'll catch one, kill it, then go after the next one. And I'll kill the strong one first! MWAHAHAHAHA

. . . I think I just went over to the dark side.

I would like you to respond to the fact that your touted list of 100 experts is filled with energy company peons, including the author of the letter. How do you defend that, considering you rely so heavily on those as your experts against climate change? If an author of a single letter that is of the position that climate change is something factual was heavily invested in the ethanol business, would you not also treat that with an appropriate level of skepticism?

Regarding that average though, and the huge amount of energy consumed, what i want to know is exactly how do you guys manage to consume so much?! I mean, I have my central heating on some of the time, i drive a medium sized car, about 10,000 miles per year, eat, well, normal amounts of food that is both locally produced and sometimes imported, and don't get anywhere near that figure.

Air conditioning.

Energy company peons? The signatories are almost all PhD's in the fields of Climatology, Meteorology, Physics, etc. Many are the heads of major university and research departments.

I'm weary of folks here pointing out "100 scientists" as if that's all there is. It's just something I referenced. I reviewed the supplied links, and if you search you'll find a lot of studies combating those. It's sort of a draw in my opinion.

In either case, there are two qualms. One is that the theory of Global Warming or "Climate Change" being caused by human actions is the "consensus" -- it's not. Besides, if it's consensus then it's not even science. Basically, this "consensus" is political. Two, right along with that political leverage that Global Climate Change being caused by humans theory gives so many potential despotic political entities, it is INCREDIBLY important that we be weary when accepting mandates, restrictions, longterm plans, and various taxes under the guise of "green".

The fact is that yes, going green can only be beneficial to our health and the health of the planet in general. However, we shouldn't be in such a goddamned hurry to hug anything thrown out as "bettering the environment" that's like actually believing all the "organic" labels they have on food today really means...well...organic.

Despite whether or not we cut our emissions by whatever industry crippling amount the UN suggests, or implement a hurried global carbon tax, there is no real way of telling whether or not that will do ANYTHING to change the current course of the climate. Nothing can be done to determine that -- nooootthhiinnnggg.

Survey: Less Than Half of all Published Scientists Endorse Global Warming Theory

In that survey we see that the majority of published experts can't even give an educated opinion as to whether or not we directly influence Global Climate Change, it's nearly impossible to do.

Another interesting article illustrates this very well on ScienceDaily.com Researchers Question Validity Of A 'Global Temperature'

Then there is the incredibly intriguing Petition Project with over 19,000 signatures thus far urging

the United States government to reject the global warming agreement that was written in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997, and any other similar proposals

And I also found an interesting forum debate concerning the above survey HERE if you want to see what I think is a very healthy discussion on it.

Rain forests fall at 'alarming' rate

From Brazil to central Africa to once-lush islands in Asia's archipelagos, human encroachment is shrinking the world's rain forests.

The alarm was sounded decades ago by environmentalists %u2014 and was little heeded. The picture, meanwhile, has changed: Africa is now a leader in destructiveness. The numbers have changed: U.N. specialists estimate 60 acres of tropical forest are felled worldwide every minute, up from 50 a generation back. And the fears have changed.
