Well, we all know what happened at Oka. No one died in that one at least... (as I remember). That WAS Canada though.
When the AIM is involved things can have a tendancy to go a bit further. Who knows what will happen with this one, but I have a feeling that this one is gonna fizzle out with not much happening.
Although I shouldn't be so gleeful that our nation is so fucked up that parts of it just want to give us the finger and become independent, I must admit that I found this highly fucking awesome. I laughed and cheered and read it out loud to my husband (who is half Lakota)
Sadly, I don't see this working out the way they hope, but I wish them all the best and hope some changes are made for them and their way of life, and for any other tribes within our borders.

Well, I'm stupid, there were 3 deaths during the Oka crisis.
Start killing Indians AGAIN???? That implied that the government had STOPPED!!!
I'll leave it at that, otherwise I'll be spewing vitriol for the next half hour.
Final tidbit: Once upon a time (during Vietnam, I think), the government tried to draft some of the Seminole. The Seminole Nation politely refused to comply, informing the U.S. government that they would not be sending them any troops because, last time they checked, the two nations were still at war, and it didn't make much sense to send their guys over to the enemy.
